Gay jokes in the work place

I work in a military department and I guess there are a lot of men that feel that making gay jokes makes them feel better about themselves. I don't like it because I wonder how someone who may be listening and may be gay or has a family member that is gay may feel about the jokes. I don't want to make a stink everytime it happens and it just bothers me - what should I do the next time it happens; how do I explain it's not the right or professional thing to do?
