We are heading to dl for the first time sept 25-oct 2nd however if we extend out stay until the 3rd oct we could get the gay days onsite discount hotel rates.
Only problem is I'm not really sure what exactly gay days is and what would be involved to be eligible for the discount. We will have our kids 5 and 8 with us so is it child friendly?
Any advice appreciated :)

Not sure about the discounts, but we went one year during Gay days and thought it was fine for kids. There were some people more dressed up than usual but it was fine. I'd take Gay Days over Grad Nights any day!

Gay Days is really no different than any other time at Disneyland. And plenty of gay families have kids. I don't think you need any real verification, though you have to register through the gaydays website to book. I've been tempted as we're going to be there that weekend, but I can't decide if I want to stay onsite or try the new Courtyard. So far, we've got the Courtyard booked, but the Gay Days rates are amazing.

Just an FYI from another board regarding Gay Days discount rates:

According to the website, "This site has been created for Gay Days Anaheim 2015. Only guests that are participating in this Special Event are eligible to use this site in order to get access to the pre-blocked rooms and/or Theme Park Tickets at the special contracted rate. In order to qualify for the discounted rate, your stay MUST include one of the main event nights of October 2, 3 or 4. Your reservation and ticket order will be audited against the Gay Days Event registration list and should it be necessary we reserve the right to contact you to request proof of registration. If it is discovered that the reservation and/or ticket order is not for a Gay Days Event or a related participant, the reservations and/or ticket order will be cancelled, the tickets blocked (if applicable), and any deposit or payment will not be eligible for a refund. In addition these tickets cannot be purchased for the purpose of or with the intention of being resold."

Yeah- I second this. We end up at the parks, during Gay Days, almost every year, with our now 6 year old. It's no different from any other day, except you'll notice a lot of happy, large groups.

I've had plenty of eye-roll moments on grad nights, though. Lots of teens don't know how to act, when mommy and daddy aren't around.

We're going to gay days as well. I usually choose when attending conferences not to stay under the block - this year I chose the package. I might have waited if I knew the rate was that good ;D But I'm pretty happy with my choice. My stay will be magical enough without being on the same floor as everybody.:rotfl:

In my experience when conferences I have attended have blocks of rooms, there's only so many rooms allotted. I can afford to pay more so I don't usually take a room in the block because someone else may not be able to attend or stay "on site" due to money concerns. In this situation I guess the question is if you're not attending that event, do you feel comfortable getting a room meant for people attending that event - knowing it's not just a rate it's a room of a limited supply?

It's really up to you and your comfort level. The above quoted outcome is also a little scary :/

In the parks, Gay Days is just a day in the parks where there might be more gay people there than on another day. This will mainly be noticeable because of the increased number of red-shirt-wearing people there.

We went over that time in 2012, I believe, when it fell over Columbus Day. The combo made it VERY busy as the weekend went on!

Other than that, they have events in various places. There's a schedule on their website.

Back when we went we thought my brother in law and his partner would be going with us, so we felt completely OK using the site to book the rate. I also had an email from the guy answering emails on their site telling me that it was OK. Now it seems like Disney is cracking down more.
