Now that I have given my two weeks' notice and yesterday was my last day at the gate at Universal Studios, I want to ask a question that I have been wondering about. Now I am just a member of the public asking members of the public a question on a public message board.

I have agreed to work in the promotion of tourism in Orlando. Quite frankly I am hoping to work to include Universal Studios in the Gay Days, which takes place primarily at WDW. I believe that growth in the LGBT market would be good for the city of Orlando. You are certainly free to agree or to believe that I have lost my mind from too much sun at that front gate, and my question will remain the same.

Would you personally be offended as a Universal Studios guest if Universal Studios took part in Gay Days?

Nope!

Not at all! I think it would be great!! :) I happened to be at Disney last year during their Gay Days and I was thrilled! I rode a few rides with some people celebrating and told them how amazing I thought it was! Even though Disney doesn't "actively endorse them" all the shops had rainbow pins up front on all the counters!! I think it would be great if Universal had them too!!

In years past there have been groups going to Universal during Gay Days but like Disney...nothing official. I think there was even a circuit party at the Studios one year...after hours of course. I heard the organizer and Disney had some falling out about having another circuit party at DHS which they've done many times before...just something I heard...I don't know if it's true.

something like that would never offend me.

i went to the motherland a few times during gay days and it was no different than any other time. people are people.
same amount of fun as always.

I think it's ridiculous to have gay days. Why do have a day to honor sexual preference? :confused3

Honor? There are lots of groups and conventions that come to Universal. I wouldn't say any of them are being honored.

There's not a day, or a week honored for them. Groups or conventions have nothing to do with gay days.

Nope. If it's been going on at Disney for 20 years I have no problem. HOWEVER, this year they rented out USF and Typhoon Lagoon for a night.

It's not preference, it's orientation. You don't choose what sex you're attracted to.

As a straight person, and therefore part of a privileged group, I hesitate to answer this... but I think Gay Days is about empowerment. It's an opportunity to spend a few days enjoying the parks with their families, without having to endure the judgement of others. Straight people have this privilege every day. They can take their children out, hold hands, etc. without suffering the dirty looks and rude comments. Every day is "Straight Pride".

To answer the OP, I wouldn't mind at all if Gay Days was officially celebrated at Universal. I'd welcome it.

I don't see it as any different than a large group of Harry Potter fans planning a certain day or days and visiting the parks as a unified group with coordinated events. Universal held a large fan event last year. Nobody honoured the HP fans.

I personally see nothing wrong with it but would it be wise for Universal to get involved or should they keep a hands off approach as Disney does? Some people have such weird attitudes about this.

This. I think it would be a mistake to do anything officially.

I dont have problem with most of it either.

The only issue is some gay people abuse the time and become over flamboyant. I have no problem with your choice or attraction. This is the only issue I have with a select few. Just like any group of people, there is a few to turn off or ruin for the rest. :thumbsup2

We certainly wouldn`t be offended.

I didn`t know the Gay Days at Disney were not official.....I just assumed they were.

I was at the HP event you mentioned and NO WAY did anyone honor us. Most regular visitors were so mad because November is usually a great time to come but the parks were PACKED with people trying to glimpse stars. Those with the special fan package got in at 5am too so it was even worse for the regular parkgoers. Just thought I'd mention that.
