Gatwick Virgin, do they actually MEASURE hand luggage?

Can you take jewelry in hand luggage?

Absolutely! I wouldn't dream of packing it in my hold luggage - unless they change the restrictions again and you can't take it on board. In which case, I'd rather leave it at home.

I would NEVER put any jewlery in my case, ALWAYS hand luggage or on me! :sunny:

Its expensive, but more importantly it has sentimental value, and the insurance could never replace it.

NEW restrictions on hand luggage off Virgins Website is

45cm long, 35 cms high 16 cms deep. .

The bag I usually use is a bit bigger than this, but I don't especially want to buy a new one. It's a soft canvas bag that would easily scrunch down to fit inside the testing cage provided I only half-fill it. Would that be acceptable?

My friend flew to Newzealand for her wedding (the weekend the scare was on the news) & they told her she couldnt carry on her wedding rings...so they had to wear them!!
We are getting married in Florida & i am having my grandmothers wedding ring (as well as the tiara & other jewellery for me & DD) i'm hoping they are now allowing jewellery otherwise i will look like Mr T in the airport!!!!

The restrictions were reduced quite a lot after that weekend! Im getting married in Florida too and i check with Virgin and i am allowed to carry the wedding rings + jewellery in hand luggage!

Thanks Claire L for the list, very useful :thumbsup2

My daughter and i are both asthmatic and need inhalers. They are aerosols and cant be put in the hold as we might need them. Are we allowed these?

Many thanks for any info

Doris (BiGGys wife) :confused3

im pretty sure you are Ok, as long as the medicine or inhaler has your prescription label with your name on it, It has to match name on flight ticket.

you can pretty much take anything that you could take before (so long as it fits into the guideline bags, and they WILL measure them) - other than aerosols, gels (including lip gloss, so no juicy tubes girls!) and liquids.

Food, jewellery, game boys/Ipods etc.. all allowed on with no problems.

Also, they arent checking that well.. lots of things could potentially get through if your bag is not searched (mine was!) but I had no dangerous substances like lipgloss or bottles of water ;)
