Ummm! After the gator mishap I kept on comforting myself on walks with at least we don't have gators here. Imagine my surprise when I saw this article. http://whdh.com/news/alligator-found-on-side-of-road-in-lowell/. That is MA and since I have been learning a lot about gators recently I don't remember reading anything that mentioned gators can be found in Ma. I hope they caught the gator before any nests or litters were hatched in that area.

Don't alligators know how to read encyclopedias (You youngins might not even know what those are. o_O)to find out they aren't welcomed here?

I do have to say that this gator looks cute but I still wouldn't want to meet it on my walks. All the pictures I've seen lately with gators in it have been scary to look at.Be careful my friends and never smile at a crocodile.

O.k. Just watched the link and people like the ones in the video is why gators aren't afraid of people.

I saw on the weather channel app a video of an alligator in the ocean on the beach.

They do tolerate salt water and flooding may have pushed them in the ocean they said.

It's always been rumored that they live in nyc sewers (and some artwork and statues around town using this folklore as their source). time to time (very rare, decades apart) they do actually find one but it's always a suspected released "pet".

We have problems with a few Toronto residents dumping their exotic pets in our woods & forests. A few yrs ago, some intelligent creature dumped their pet caiman in a local lake one summer and it terrorized children & small pets until sadly it froze to death in the Fall. Local wildlife control could not corner it in time to save it. We had a large burmese python dumped in a local bay near a busy marina. It too froze in the Fall when its body was discovered by children. Once in a while, another brilliant mind leaves their exotic cats in the woods (puma usually) and they prey on dogs and cats. In some instances, they stalk children waiting at school bus stops. In nearly every case, these exotic animals were illegally obtained and then when they grew too large to be handled, their irresponsible owners dumped their pets in rural Ontario rather than surrender them to wildlife shelters. Mind boggling and truly selfish.

Four have been spotted here in the past couple of months, and supposedly they don't live here, either. As hot, humid, and swampy as our area is, though, I always said it was just a matter of time. One was caught and relocated to a local river. The other three were not caught. I guess we'll be hearing about/seeing a lot more of them now. The news articles say they are a protected species in our state even though, as I said before, they aren't supposed to live here. That bit of info confuses me. Unless they are federally protected?
