When you stay on site has anyone ventured off site to visit Gatorland? We plan to enjoy the BCV resort while we are there. We will hit the parks a bit but really want a relaxed trip without packed parks. I know this is hard in mid July so we thought one day off site would be nice. THe kids are thinking of Gatorland. Is this worth a side trip for a 6 & 8 year old?

We went once several yers ago. From what I remember it was pretty much a 4-6 hour max type of place to go to and do everything. There was a show where they wresteld gators, an area that you could watch them feeding them and them lying out in the sun, some cages with monkeys and otehr animals, and a short nature trail. There is a gift shop that sells gator everything.....you can even have frozen gator meat shipped to your house. Also there is a snack bar that you can get gator nuggets and such at. Something different to do once. Have fun.

This is my son's favorite place and even NOW that he is 16 he still wants to go!!Can you believe it? Here is a little hint. YOu can feed the gators hot dogs from many sites. If you buy the hot dogs to feed them there you get 3 for 1.25. Go to Wal Mart and get the cheapest hot dogs you can usually about 65C per pack. Buy two or three packs depending on the amount of kids you are taking and bring them in in you fanny packs and have a ball. We like to feed them from the tower. It is like a scene from Indiana JOnes.
If you have never been to Gatorland then be prepared. It is honky tonk and a taste of old Florida. There is no glitz. Just an old fashioned park filled with gators and crocks. Also, get your kids' pictures taken holding the alligator and snake. Bring your own camera they will let you take extras while they are setting up. If you have little boys they will be more impressed by this place than anything Disney has to offer. Snakes, gators, and animals all that is missing is an insect display to fulfill a little boys dream.
I was always hesitant to go there when they were little and now I am sorry I waited until my son was 11. When YOU leave you will never want to look at another reptile again!!

Gatorland is such a 'hidden gem'. A perfect off site destination when you want to relax a little bit but still be active. If you arrive early be sure to take the Swam Walk first when you're more likely to see the wildlife.

Enjoy! It's a terrific choice. :)

We went last year in Dec and my boys 7,5 and 2 really enjoyed it. Although the weather was cold and they couldn't get those gators to move much at all. You should get a great show in the summer with the gators jumping for chickens. It's worth the 1/2 day day! Enjoy.

Oh yeah, and it cost $10 to sit on a gator, but both my older boys got to sit together so I only had to pay once and I got the best picture ever! (Couse I paid for the pic too) Worth every penny though, cause every time anyone sees that picture they just can't believe the boys were actually on this huge live alligator!
