IIRC, that sign ( or one identical to it), is on the SOG property. And since it also doesn't specifically warn against swimming, wading, of playing in the water, or near it, and isn't in at least a a dozen different languages and braille, it wouldn't satisfy the people screaming for more detailed signage.

I guest Disney CUT BACK funding and personal to controll gators. Seems like stuff happens after cut backs.

THANK YOU....

Well I and apparently a bunch of other people did not know there were gators there. So maybe I'm ignorant or uneducated or whatever but there are no signs CMs see kids waddling and don't say anything they sell beach toys at the gift shops. There should be a clear barrier keeping people away from the water.

I agree. I knew because Ive been told by the ferry captains. I thought the "no swimming" signs were because the water was contaminated. Dipping toes and swimming are different things to me. Clearly these were great parents as the father was by the boys side and the daughter was in a playpen on the beach. Disney should put clear signs "Do not go near water" "Danger: Alligators" Im not blaming Disney for not having the signs, but without them, you can not blame the parents for not knowing. This is just so horribly horrific for all involved. I cant stop thinking about the family and I am heartbroken for all of them.

Here is my 12 year old in Bay Lake, wakeboarding. Apparently Sammy Duvall did not feel the waters were unsafe when they took my $300 for being at risk for 2 hours.

You can bet all waterfront activities ended in a room in Burbank this morning...

The waterfront cabins? Absolutely not...those are to make easily ridiculous cash and squeeze the 150,000 previous DVC owners...

Nothing will stop that. They'll just put up a sign.
Orange County can pull those permits and put a stop to it.
That's not how it works in the O-town
They absolutely have to obtain permits from the county, the SFWMD, and other government agencies before work can begin. That's how the plans get out before the official announcement -- they are filed with the county for approval.

I wouldn't be surprised if the county put a stop to them just so they could say they were 'doing something' about what happened.

Shades of green is not Disney run...and it's between the two golf courses - which are known to be gator hangouts.

The of pga tour event was broadcast on ESPN...and every single year they showed shots of gators basking on the courses.

I still don't get the "I didn't know" angle.

But I think it's more "great Disney would never hurt me based on the price"...and that is a fool's folly.

Disney cannot control nature. And really...it's always looked like a swamp to me...before I knew any of the backstory or operation.

I would 100% want a clean sweep. A deadly animal like that has no place in WDW. I fully understand they can't control it 100%, but in a case like this - yes, kill them all. It'll at least reduce the risk a bit for another family.
I have to be honest when I read the news story (which there have been several posted since it happened last night on my local news) on my local news' website I felt a pang of sorrow for the gators that were killed. At a practical level I understand the need to attempt to locate the gator involved in hopes of gaining that closure..but that does not in any way mean I don't have compassion for animals. I think, but of course I'm not sure, that lockedoutlogic's point was FL's natural habitat is swamp land..gators are part of that swamp land and thus are something that is a possibility in WDW. They shouldn't be in WDW but that doesn't mean it won't happen from time to time because prior to WDW being built there I'm sure it was gator haven.

My neighborhood still has a lot of wooded areas..this is a natural habitat for--

Seen on my property front or backyard:
Copperhead snakes, other types of snakes, blue-tailed lizards, other types of lizards, opossums, multitude of spider species, rabbits, moles (ugh those have some some serious damage to a lot of people's yards especially last year including mine)

Seen or heard either across the street (where there is currently empty, but wooded lots or in other parts of the neighborhood:
Deer, seen two large wild turkey, pack of coyotes, owls

Now of course I'm not saying what is in my neighborhood is in an way related to a gator snatching a child and...eating it (sorry that's actually hard to type)..but my point was basically I'm in the animals listed above habitat.

I'm certaintly not trying to create an argument at all just providing my perspective.

They used to...they were engineered so you couldn't "fall off"...and they were used for guided tours with operators controlling the routes and useage.

They used to rent those "Sprites" (something like that) that went about 3 miles per hour in the 7Seas lagoon. I remember seeing them at the marina last September, but didnt see anyone renting them.

Why would they put a stop to putting resorts on the water when there are literally hundreds of tourist locations across the entire state that are right on bodies of water/edge of forests that are home to dangerous predators and situations?

Read my last line. I said they would pull the permits for that ONE resort that's on the same body of water where the toddler was killed so they could look like they were doing something and responding to what happened.

I didn't say they should or that it would be state-wide.

No no...that's the facts and I'm not disputing that.

I'm saying orange and Osceola counties don't "block" Disney building on their own land.

First...lake Buena and reedy creek have special tax and permitting capacity granted by Florida in 1965...Roy Disney hammered it through and insisted to build. WDW is the us equivalent of the Vatican.

Second...how do the county's pay their employees? Tax revenue from sales and corporations...when WDW was announced...Orlando was called farms, oranges, and had 55,000 people.

Now it has "slightly more"

No mystery who has the butter...and who has the bread.

I don't get what there's not to get about not knowing. Many people in this and other threads have said they didn't know about the alligators.

Well Disneys situation is complex with reedy creek and such. Locked out probably knows the details more than me, but I always thought the permit process was a "formality". See how they built the studios before universal even though construction started later
