Has anyone been able to use the bastric surgery card at character meals to be able to pay child price?

I can't eat that much due to the surgery and restuarants here allow me to pay child price at buffets and order off childs menu at regular restuarants.

Thanks :)

At restaurants with menus many people have reported being able to order of the child's menu or ordering an appetizer instead of a meal or splitting a meal with somebody else in your party. There are several options that could work for you.

At fixed price restaurants, you're typically paying for more than just the food; you're paying for the atmosphere and entertainment as well. Typically, they won't charge a lesser price because of eating less than most adults. There's no harm in asking your server or a manager because they do have a bit of discression if they see you eating very little, but I would strongly suggest that you go in expecting to pay full price so you won't be disappointed. For the most part, it's only when they see a person not eating at all that they'll discount the meal at a fixed price restaurant and even then there's no guarantee. Most likely you'll have to pay full price. All you can eat may be a lot or it may be a little depending on the individual; for you it's a little. Remember that 10 year old children also have to pay full adult price even if they eat like birds.

Hi - I was 1 year out of Gastric Bypass (RNY) when I went to Disney in 2005. I was able to get the child's meals at Chef Mickey's, Princess Breakfast, etc., because I called ahead and explained/asked. All I had to do was bring my "gastric bypass ID" and show them. However, nobody made me show the card. It worked out perfect.

Basically what everyone else said above. When I made my reservation, checked into my hotel and checked in to sit down meals, I said I had a medical condition and required small meals. While I got some strange looks at the 50's cafe ordering from the kids meal, I did (and it was in the mickey bowl and everything!)

You don't need a special card or advance request to order a child's meal or an appetizer as an entree at a sit down restaurant with a traditional menu. I am diabetic so I limit my carbs and sometimes the child's meal or an appetizer is the best choice for me. I don't make any explanation, I just ask if I can order the the child's meal. Or tell them to bring me the appetizer as my entree. I've never had a problem.

Its worth checking into the buffets though. I've always just paid full price because I thought the entertainment factor was worth it. But I have a good friend who has had gastric bypass and I am a huge eater compared to her! So being that restricted, it doesn't hurt to ask!

I am glad people have posted thesequestions I will be about 4 months post op when we visit WDW. I have looked at Allears.net for the menus and perused what I think I could eat. We won't be going to any buffets anyway but I will probably order a kids meal now and agian.
BTW my surgeon's center doesn't give out a card- bummer!

I've found that the children's menus at WDW have the worst food for anyone trying to eat healthy - chicken nuggets, pizza, hamburgers, etc - too much salt, fat and empty carbs.

How about splitting a meal (except at a buffet) with a family member? Then you can get some healthy choices!

I'd have to agree about the kids meals at the counter service restaurants, although they have gotten better over the years. But at the table service restaurants I've had some pretty decent meals. The 50's Prime Time has a kids meal with grilled fish and so doesn't the Coral Reef. Le Cellier has a grilled steak. Many have grilled chicken. I read the menus in advance.

The quick service locations also have some of the worst choices on the adult menu for those trying to eat healthy. Most have salads at least and you can get fruit instead of fries as a side.

But splitting a meal also works out and sometimes that is what I choose. Mostly only when my daughter is with me since my husband is a pretty big eater! She will eat an appetizer, split the entree with me, and then have dessert.

I've also had appetizers as my entree and that can work out well.

Thanks for the info - it's good to know that there are some better choices out there for the kids! Bad eating habits started at a young age are very hard to break as an adult, and the damage to the heart and other organs is already devastating in some cases. I used to only eat vegetables smothered in cheese sauce or butter, shudder! And everything had gravy, and my lunchmeat of choice was bologna (which isn't even considered a meat anymore!). It took me a long time to appreciate plain, healthy food.
