My doctor has given me a card explaining that i cant eat regular portions and asks that I only be charged the child's price. Do the Disney servers honor these type cards? My plans are to use the card at Boma's and Chef Mickey's and pay OOP while saving my 2 TS credits for DM and DD to use later in the trip

Thanks in advance,

Grumpy

ETA: I am also posting this on the Disabilities board

Well, I am not exactly sure how it would work at buffets. I think the buffets are strictly aged base, regardless of how much food you think you will or will not be able to eat.

Obviously, at a regular TS, they will more than likely let you order a kid's meal OOP.

I am assuming your DM and DD are also on the dining plan?

Yours is an interesting question. Disney routinely accommodates all types of dietary restrictions, but I believe the DDP is strictly age-based as far as pricing. I'm sure they would give you a kids meal for an Adult TS, but as the other poster noted, you'd be way ahead just paying OOP for that meal.

If your DM and DD are not participating in DDP (you didn't say), you will not be allowed to "treat" them with your DDP credits, regardless of any medical issues. If that's the case, you'd probably do better without DDP.

A good alternative to DDP for you might be the DDE card, if you qualify. You have to be an AP holder or a Florida resident to purchase the card. I believe the AP price is $65. The DDE card gives you a 20% discount at most of the TS restaurants, and you can use one card for up to 10 people in your party. There's no need to buy multiple DDE cards, nor do you have to worry about whether you'll be allowed to get the discount for guests. The only downside is that all DDE checks carry an automatic 18% tip regardless of party size...but you're going to tip anyway.

No, they don't.

There are lots of 11 year old little girls that don't eat much, yet pay the adult price on the DDP.

The price is not based on how much food is consumed, but the age.

I wish it was though, because I consume less food than my 6 year old DS.:rotfl:

I've actually read repeatedly that people with actual experience state that the card from Gastric Bypass surgeries gets them the child's price at buffets at WDW. It's a medical condition of sorts, not just an age thing or a pickiness thing.

Now, I do NOT see the point of going on the dining plan if you have the card. Unless the others in your party are going to more than make up for it, it just doesn't seem worth it (but the dining plan doesn't even make sense for our family without anyone having had gastric bypass).

I just got off the off the phone with a CM and I was told that YES if you have a letter/card from your surgeon explaining that you have had a Gastric Bypass and cannot eat full portions, Disney Dining WILL honor that card and only charge you at the child's rate at any of their restaraunts. Please note that I did NOT ask about receiving the entire DDP at a childs rate, but only individual meals paid OOP

Sorry - I read your post wrong. I did think you were hoping for the DDP at a child's price.

If you're paying OOP, I think they'd sell you a kids meal with or without any type of medical issue.

Or you could order something smaller, like an appetizer, if that's all you wanted. An OOP appy might be much better food, depending on the restaurant.

OR, you could still get DDP and only eat a portion of each meal. There are no "Food Police" insisting that everyone clean their plates. Also, it's okay to share food with others on the plan. It's just when you try to use your DDP to feed folks who are not on the plan that you run into issues.

Good luck and have a great trip.

Agreed Jim,basically my entire question was " Can I recieve a buffet for the child's price with a gastric bypass?" and i found out the answer was YES with a doctor's note/ letter

Sorry. Guess I didn't read between the lines enough on your OP. Have a great trip.

I hope the CM was telling the truth but I have had CMs tell me things that are not true. For instance, I have ADRs at LTT at 4:00 for the night of MNSSHP. I wasn't planning on going to MK that day until 4, the time party guests can enter with party ticket only. Anyway, she informed me that they would let me in earlier since I have ADRs. I was later informed that she was wrong, that 4PM is the earliest anyone without an actual park ticket can enter.

So, just because one CM told you that doesn't make it true. Perhaps you could research further or try emailing Disney. I would hate for you to have problems once you're there.

Good luck!

I actually thought about that type of situation when i called. The first CM Italked to didn't seem to have a clue, so after she hemmed and hawwed for a moment , i politely suggested that she transfer me to her supervisor so I could find out for sure. Iknow there can still be miscommunication, but I am hoping since it came from a little bit up the food chain it might be more reliable. Even if I was given the wrong info, its not going to spoil my vacation :thumbsup2
