I am planning on having the R N Y version of the bypass done in May and hope to go to WDW in July. ARe there reduced prices on the DDP after the surgery? I did a search on here for it but only came up with a few threads that are almost 6 months old. Any light shed on this would be most helpful

TIA,

Grumpy

I have also posted this on the DDP board

No, the DDP is a fixed price; it is all or nothing.

However, if you do not do DDP, often at a buffet if you explain to your server in advance, and it is observed that you are eating very little, that you often may only be charged the children's price and not the adult price.

I had RNY done Feb 05 and went to WDW in May 05 and we chose not to do the DDP because while I was eating 2-3 meals a day by then, my meals were the size of an appetizer or smaller. It wasn't worth the $ I'd be paying and I wasn't able to get a child's price for the plan. We did a lot of counter service meals so I'd get a piece of grilled chicken or I'd actually split a meal with my 2 kids or just share with my husband. Any sit down restaurants were very accomodating, allowing me to eat from the child's menu after explaining my situation.

That being said I have a friend who recently went- both she and her husband had lap band surgery and they both used the DDP. Now neither had bypass, both have bands that are pretty much 'wide open' (minimal restriction) and I've never ever seen two people eat as much as these two can eat, even BEFORE surgery! (they haven't lost much weight after over a year now....I wonder why....)

I had the RNY GB a few years ago and I used the DDP. At first I was not sure if we would need it but it was free. Anyway I know you will not be able to eat all that much but here’s it what you may want to do (my DG did this for us). This is what we were going to do anyway. I guess the person you are going with wants the DDP…

I’m not sure if this will make sense but…

When you make the reservations tell them you had GB (also ask the doctor to give you a note). My DOC has cards made up (just added my name) and he gave me a few… explaining all about my surgery.

Buffets - Ask the host if you can buy the child portions at buffets (most will let you) then pay out of pocket for the child’s meal.

Sit Down Places - Share a meal.

Now you will have extra points with the above.

NOW you can eat at those really nice 2 points per person places. Then you can eat that the Castle or someplace worth two points.

I know this may sound like a lot of money you don’t need to spend… but in the long run you are gong to eat at the best places.

Bets opf luck with the surgery:thumbsup2

Only a month post-op and going to Disney -GREAT!!!!:cool1:

We did the same. I am an adult on tube feeding, so my teen children shared the credits and went to the places needing two credits for TS, a dinner show at Hoop De Doo, etc. The credits can all be shared. We didn't need the snack credits and ended up bringing home grocery bags of chips, salsa, cheese sauce, etc...nonperishables that brought back great memories as the kids munched through our "leftovers" when we got home. ---Kathy

Gastric Bypass and Buffets, I just questioned this Yesterday when calling for my ADR's. The cast member I talked to put me on hold and came back with No we won't have to pay for the person not eating. "This is only if you don't eat" I'm going to get a Note from the Doctor just in case.

Was worried about all the Character Meals we had planned and wasteing the TS credits when I couldn't eat enough to do it justice. Will just have something prior to our sitting at a CS so not hungry. Other TS Meals will just nibble off the others plates and will be happy. I'm just worried about getting a hassle each time trying to explain the no eating, I just know somewhere they are going to say we can't do that.

I had lapband surgery 3 years ago and was extremely tight during our trip to WDW. At Crystal Palace, I told the server I wasn't eating, he said OK. Just charged us for my DH and DS. At Trails End buffet, I ordered nachos, not the buffet. The server said if you bring a card saying you have had weight loss surgery, all of the Disney restaurants can charge you for a child's buffet, or sell you a child's plate. Hope this helps.
