Ok so I know gas prices are high.. but dang it is like watching Keno numbers being posted.. the prices are changing that often on our gas pumps out here in Ca! How are prices in your corner of the world?

Unleaded- $2.19 per gallon
Unleaded midgrade-$2.39 per gallon
Unleaded supreme- $2.50 per gallon

and that is not the highest I have seen... HOLY COW!!! I paid $36.50 to fill up my van's empty gas tank this am.

I am glad I finished paying for my road trip BEFORE I saw this gas price rapid increase!

I feel your pain, mamajoan, California is leading the way with outrageous gas prices...the only place I saw it worse was in Hawaii about a month ago. I'm sure it's even worse there now too!

Wow, that's crazy. Here in Pittsburgh, supreme is around $1.85. It's been going up a nickel a day for a while. I don't drive, but I hope prices go down soon for the sake of those of you who do. I have to wonder, though, if it's going to keep right on going up through the holiday weekend.

If you want to feel better, ask someone who lives in Europe what they pay for gas. ;)

I know! What's the deal with the rising prices??? My DH says it's because Labor Day is coming up.

Gas is about $6.00 a gallon in many places in Europe. Gasoline has always been a lot more expensive in Europe.

I am in Tallahassee, FL, and I noticed the gas prices here for regular yesterday was $1.67 a gallon. That was when I filled up. Later, it had risen to $1.71.

I remember seeing gas for $.87 in Georgia while driving through about ten years ago. Ah, memories.

I'm just glad I have a gas-sipping car.

I usually do not complain too much about gas prices.. however it is the DAILY RAPID INCREASE that has me concerned.........
there seems to be no concensus on the reason behind the daily jumps in gas prices.

and for the folks in Europe.. you all have paid alot more for gas for a very long time... I have always wondered why that was the case.

The cheapest I found today was 1.72 - most others around 1.85 and due to go up later today:(

You can't find gas for under $2.10 per gallon around here anywhere.

Apparently the blackout played a part in this:

CAMARILLO, Calif. (Aug. 25) - Gasoline prices around the country jumped to record highs during the past two weeks as the nation's epic blackout temporarily shut down some refineries and a broken pipeline caused shortages in Arizona.

The shortages pushed average retail gasoline prices up more than 15 cents a gallon nationally, the biggest two-week hike since the Lundberg Survey began keeping records 50 years ago.

The survey of 8,000 service stations on Friday showed an average of all grades of gasoline reached $1.7484 a gallon, just short of the survey's all-time high weighted average of $1.7608 set last March 21, analyst Trilby Lundberg said Sunday.

The refinery shutdowns, caused by the blackout in parts of the Northeast and Midwest, combined with the break in a major pipeline in Arizona to disrupt supplies, Lundberg said.

The reopening of the pipeline Sunday and the end of the blackout means gas prices should fall, she said. The customary September decline in demand and an influx of imported gasoline also should stabilize prices.

Self-serve regular gasoline showed an average weighted price of $1.7191 a gallon, with mid-grade at $1.8127 and premium grade at $1.9046.

Phoenix had the highest leap in the nation during the two-week period, with prices jumping 60.42 cents a gallon for self-serve regular. On Aug. 22, self-serve regular averaged $2.1425, the highest price in the nation for that grade.

The lowest price for that grade was $1.4920 in Charleston, S.C.

The trouble in Phoenix started when the pipeline ruptured July 30 because of corrosion. The line, which delivers gas from El Paso, Texas, was reopened Aug. 1 but shut down again on Aug. 8 after safety concerns surfaced.

The shortage came to a head last weekend when gas stations began running dry. At its worst, two-thirds of metro gas stations were empty and some that remained open sold a gallon of gas for $3.99 and higher.

The pipeline went back into operation Sunday. Eighty-five percent of the Phoenix area's 700 or so stations had gas on Sunday, according to state officials, but prices remained high.

Gas prices here have gone up 20 cents in the last 4 days:eek: Luckily I only have to go into the office 2 days a week, but it's a 70 mile roundtrip!

Here in the UK it costs approx. $5 a gallon. Needless to say most people don't own great big cars!!

$1.79 in central Ohio for the cheap stuff today!!

I paid $1.59 this morning and *****ed about that-but we just got back from a two week road trip and saw every thing from $2.05 in Sidney, Nebraska to $1.38 in Anderson, South Carolina. It does seem to be going up rapidly though-here it has jumped from $1.43 to $1.59 since last thursday!
