I admit I haven't been watching much news lately, So, could someone tell me Why? gas is going up this time?

My DH went to the convenience store this morning to get gas for my car, he asked the clerk if gas was going up 20 some cents today (got that from another thread) she said No, but she heard it was going to be $3 by the end of the month!!!

Is this just rumor, or is it possible?

I'd say $3 by the end of the month is highly likely. Gas went up ten cents in two hours here on a Thursday (which is unusual because they change gas every week on Sunday around here)!

Actually I heard that it's likely to hit $4 a gallon during the winter months.

Does anyone want to steal my Jeep Cherokee and drive it off a cliff? I have full coverage on it and I hate to think of how much it's going to cost me to drive it.

It wouldn't surprise me - they were close to 2.70 around here last night.

Yeah, really...why is it all of the sudden going up so fast. It was so steady for awhile. And then why can one station be 20 cents lower than the one 500 feet away?

Our gasn in Wisconsin jumped from $2.39 to $2.59 and Friday afternoon it jumped to $2.71.

I heard the barrel of gas was 50% cheaper last year. Someone is making a lot of money.

It would be interesting to hear from Europeans what they are paying, or if it remains the same for them?

We pay about $6 a gallon in Germany and it made a jump of €.24 this week.
So consider yourself lucky ;)

BTW, did you know that your state of Wisconsin and the state Hesse I live in are partner states?

I know one thing...it's already affecting what I spend. I wanted to go to the mall today, but forget it. It's about 20-25 miles from my house. It cost me $30 to fill up from 1/2 tank the other day. I won't be going shopping very often.

I'm going to buy a rickshaw. ;)
But who will pull it? :)

I would ride a bike for short trips if I could. But traffic is such a nightmare here that it's a scary thought.

I thought about that, too. I only live about 5 miles from work, but I have to drive on a highway. I'd be a goner the first day I'd attempt to ride my bike to work.

It is really bad. I drive a small car and since I work in a school lunchroom I don't know how I will make my gas budget work. I don't make much money and I used to get by with $40-50 a month but today I filled up and I paid $20 for 3/4 tank of gas and that will last me about 9 days if I am lucky. I was going to reward myself next year with a new car (for my promation this past January) and get a Small SUV but I hear they have lousy gas mileage so I guess when I am able to get another car it will probably be even smaller than what I drive now(Mitsubishi Mirage). I wish I lived closer to work and church but it is a 15 mile one way trip so I can not cut that...I have to work.

I have wondered about they way things were back in the 70's when there was a shortage and they lowered the speed limit and most people drove small cars to save on gas. Maybe we should go back to that...I don't know. I do know that from reading other threads there are alot of people that drive big vehicles that use tons of gas and they swear they will not change that. It seems like if it worked back then it might work now but the attitudes of people are so different now days then they were back then. Some people are just so ME ME ME and I won't change my ways for anything. It is sad. As long as folks keep buying the big vehicles that use so much gas then the Big oil companies will keep charging more because of the ones that refuse to change. I am sure I will get flamed for stating that too. If I could afford a hybrid car I would buy one but it is way out of my budget also.

Me! I want one that's a bike and the kids can sit in the back, I'd be in kick butt shape if I did, that's for sure. ;)

If you think it is high now...just wait a little more...in a blink of an eye you will be looking at 3 dollar gas....count on it.

I was just in Canada where it is about $.90/.95 litre, or nearly $3.75 gal. :scared1:
