I thought I was young if you only remember $1.34 then I am older then I thought.

Yikes! :scared1: They have been saying that for a while now though. Who knows.
I remember when gas was 99 cents a gallon when I first got my license. Boy those were the days. :)

Yikes, I remember when I was 15 being able to fill up my motorcycle tank for a buck. :scared1:

Its right around the corner, I just paid $3.79 for diesel tonight.

I paid $3.69 twice this week. I hope it goes down in history that W was the worst choice we ever made as a president. I thought with all the people he surrounded himself with when he took office this was going to be a great economic time for this country. This guy has drug us down so far that we might have to start over. We're spending trillions of dollars to fight a senseless war in a country that is full of oil and we're the one's suffering. Doesn't make sense to me. I hope he takes his shiek cronies he's been dancing with on tv and shoves em where the sun don't shine. I'm ashamed to say I voted for him on round 1.

Sorry, but neither W, nor anyone else that would have been in the White House has that much control over any particular commodity. If you look at gas prices worlwide you will see about the same increase no matter where you're at. All I can say is I'm glad I'm paying the prices here, and not elsewhere.

Date....... Belgium... France Germany... Italy... Netherlands... UK.... US
2/7/2000.. 3.64....... 3.85..... 3.57...... 3.77........ 4.09....... 4.55.. 1.5
2/4/2008.. 7.72....... 7.44..... 7.69...... 7.59........ 8.32....... 7.78.. 3.21

Change.... 112%...... 93%.... 115%..... 101%...... 103%...... 71%.. 114%

Prices are in US dollars per gallon

Funny how the price always creeps up once the summer travel plans are around the corner. $4.00 is really going to effect people's driving habits and vacation plans. Too bad. I know when we travel to upstate NY, I prefer to take my truck..but our last few visits we took the car instead. Takes a tank there and a tank back..better mileage with the car than the truck. I found that last summer we weren't taking as many short trips..it wasn't worth the gas unless we planned to be away for a bit. Where as before I'd shoot up for even an overnight and come back late the next day. Wouldn't even consider that now. I can't imagine I'm the only one thinking along those lines. Judging by the number of trailers I saw in the campground storage area...alot of folks weren't bothering to tow home if they had plans to come back a few weeks later. There is also now a wait list for seasonal sites. Would appear that prices like that are going to have an impact on tourism and the RV industry...very frustrating. It's not right.

Don't blame the President for the oil prices, blame the commodities market for speculating on the oil supply. This last jump was due to the fire at the oil refinery in Texas. The spectators say "supply interruption, increase the price". Congress was the one that deregulated that market and now they won't do anything about the price gouging by big oil.

BTW, most of the higher prices in other countries are due to 50% taxes on a liter/gallon of fuel. :scared1:

:scared1: My husband's head is going to explode before our trip I swear! We're leaving in 18 days and know that gas will be up by then...which totally sucks!! It was bad enough to think of driving from MI to FL at $3.00 a gallon....$4.00 is just plain ole' crazy!:sad2:

I actually have decided not to buy a travel trailer because of the price of gas. I REALLY want one, but there is no way I can afford to tow it! I love to camp, and I have camping trips planned for every month from May to September, but I am just paying for a cabin at the campgrounds where I want to go and it is cheaper than gas would cost me to tow a travel trailer! (I know this isn't the case at FW though!)

I don't know how people who work for minimum wage can afford the gas to drive to and from their jobs!!!!

Sounds like they look for for any excuse to raise the price of gas. Thanks goodness I filled the tank in the truck at the local gas station during "happy hour". It was 2.99 a gallon.

I never said George could control the world response to a commodity.. (OK, I probably did insinuate it some.) I was just trying to point out that gas has had over a 100% increase since he's been in office while the inflation rate was around 3% a year.

As far as George and control, since it's been brought up. Anxiety in the speculation market for this world wide commodity and China's dramatic rise in oil usage during the last 8 years are big contributors. A good deal of the anxiety has been a result of a small invasion, orchestrated by George and his merry men, in a prime oil producing region of the world and his (their) ongoing rhetoric to keep the pot stirred in other countries that don't look, behave or believe like him (them)...

Stepping off the soap box and returning this topic to the OP. :yay:

I just paid $3.599 for ULSD diesel here. If it goes up to $4, that's only going to add $80 in fuel cost to my 2000 mile round trip pulling my 5er... I can probably afford an extra $80 or I shouldn't be going to WDW.

I don't want to open a can of worms here BUT, Stacktester isn't it nice that you can go to WDW without worrying about some terrorist blowing up your family or poisoning your food. I'd much rather fight them on their own turf than here, and yes I was in the military. Humans have been fighting since the beginning of history, it would be naive to think there will be peace, as history doesn't indicate that this will ever happen. Just IMHO...

I use to pump gas when it was 34cents/gal and gave away glasses and stuff at the same time with fill-ups.

Weaker dollar=Higher oil, and the dollar has been weakened a bunch lately. If we have another Fed lowering soon, expect higher prices quickly.

Yeah, I bought gas in the mid 60s in Austin (gas price war) for 9 cents a gallon they were selling it across the street for 7 cents but it wasn't worth the effort to drive across the street! In the early 60s i routinely paid around 20 cents a gallon.

A large percentage of the gas price here in the US is due to the tax on gasoline. That's also why there is such a large difference between states with gas prices. Tack on the profits from the distributors and the stations and the reason for higher prices is explained. A 3 dollar increase on a barrel of crude alone doesn't justify the increase in gas prices we have seen this week alone. Oil is big money - but not just for the oil barrons. There are plenty of businesses justifying their increase in prices by blaming oil, and local and state governments aren't immune from blame, either. Europe has been paying outrageous prices for gas for years yet they pay the same for a barrel of crude that we do, their taxes are just out of this world. I'll stick it to the man by riding my motorscooter as often as possible - 100 mpg, baby.:moped:
