I was considering driving from Dallas to WDW at one point but now am glad I decided to fly with the way gas prices keep going up.

Have the prices affected your plans to drive?

They have for my December trip!!!

Since I go solo for December, I am really working hard to figure out how to pack my camping gear within the airlines allowances. I can get everything in two rubbermaid bins plus one carry-on suitcase that meets size requirements, but I have to weigh the bins to make sure they are under 50 lbs each. We have a good scale at work, so some Saturday soon, when I have nothing else going on, I'm going to haul the bins to work and weigh them. If I can get the weight right, then I'm going to start watching those December airfares!!!!

At current gas prices, it costs me just over $120.00 to drive to WDW round trip. The way they are going up, I expect that to increase to $150 or more.

If I keep watching the airfare, I can usually get a roundtrip for $160 or less, and then Mears for a solo person is only $28.

So for me by myself, for just a few dollars more, I can save some wear and tear on my truck, and save 9 hours each way.

We were seriously thinking about flying and after these great swa airfares, we definitely are. To drive from Indiana for 15 hours each way with the cost of gas right now would be a couple hundred dollars at least. The time and convenience of flying for a little more is so worth it.

I just drove from Dallas to WDW 3/13 and returned on 3/20.
At that time, the highest we paid was 1.75 a gallon. If you drive DFW-Shreveport-Jackson MS - Hattiesburg MS - Mobile AL -Pensacola you can usually save a couple of bucks because the gas prices are cheaper than going from DFW to Shreveport and getting on I49 to Lafayette LA and picking up I10 to Florida.
Its also about 100 miles shorter.
We did the drive in 17.5 hrs both ways.

In the planning stages I planned on gas being between 1.75 to 2.00 so I had figures to work with. Actual gas prices were 1.75 the most I paid, to 1.53 for the least. If I had to choose now, I would probably still drive. If the prices are over 2.00 Id probably fly.

Gas prices definitely affected our plans - we'll be flying for the first time in June!!

We've always driven, just couldn't justify the cost of flying. But with gas prices going so high, I started watching the airline ticket prices. For a while there, airline prices were so high we'd pretty much decided we'd have to drive anyway. But then a few days ago I read here on the boards that SW had dropped their prices. I checked it out, we got a great deal on our tickets, so now we're flying to WDW. Now we won't have to spend 28 hours round trip in the car!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Nope.

For 2 adults, it's still cheaper to drive down from NY.

We'd have to rent a car down there anyway since we plan to go to the gulf coast too.

Gas prices have risen quite a bit since we first decided to drive down, but we aren't changing our plans because of it.

There are 5 of us... so we decided to fly instead because the gas prices keep climbing and climbing!

So far they haven't for us. Unless I find some really great airfare, I am afraid we will have to drive this year. There are 6 of us going this summer 4 adults, 2 kids and to buy 6 airline tickets even at 150.00 and then 2 weeks rental of a minivan will cost over 1400 or 1500 bucks. This will be my first time driving in 10 years. We'll see how it goes.

:hyper: We are still planning on driving in November. I figure it will only cost us about $50.00 tops round trip for gas from Tennessee, one nights hotel on the way down. (We are gonna tough it out and drive straight home). Can't imagine that it would be cheaper to fly with four of us.

Go Lady Vols!!!
