Can someone in the area please inform me on how the gas/food/water shortage is. Is there one going on? I don't need cheese or hamburger meat, but I do need milk (I have a choc. milk fetish ;) ). Even at midnight, we were STILL trying to determine the path that WE would make (to go or not to go).

I was wondering about this too. My DH is trying to back out on our trip in Oct. because of all the reports of gas shortages and lines everywhere. We are supposed to be going to Sanibel Island after WDW and I guess we have to wait and let Ivan decide that one for us. I really need a vacation and I will probably have to make some changes. I wonder if there is any coastline that is not damaged in Florida? I feel so bad for all the people there affected by these storms.

gas is pretty scarce for us on the east coast and up and down 95... actually we have not had milk in our stores since before frances.... i think orlando is doing better though but not sure about stops along the way on 75 and 95 witht the keys eavacuating i hink you might run into a problem driving down...

That's what we are afraid of. So after looking at NOAA website, we are gonna head down today and make a decison in the morning if we need to leave. As we get closer to FL we will make more frequent gas stops.

How is I-10 and 343? Is it the same as the rest of the state?

gas is hard to come by down by me also (Lee County). Milk is hard to get, I did manage to find some at my local Wal-mart yesterday...first time in nearly 3 days not seeing milk. The reccomendations that I am seeing about gas is, don't go blow 1/2 tank. The other thing I am seeing is that when you can find the gas, it is the med or high grade due to the lower grade selling out first. There are actually people in my area that are following the tankers to see where they are delivering to. ::yes::

Thanks for that update Sharon, and I will keep the tips in mind :)

Where I live gas is still available. Stores are still have some problems with deliveries so you may not find everything that you need.

Areas are still a little rough around FL so you may need to make alternate plans for some areas.

If you want everything to go as it did for past trips you may be dissapointed when you come to FL.

I don't know my FL geography very well. Is there a shortage in the Orlando area? We will be driving I-10 from Louisiana.

You may find shortages all over Florida. Central FL was hit pretty hard by both hurricanes.

If Ivan decides to hit Central FL you may see more shortages. Also if they have to evacuate the Keys many of them will be staying in the Orlando area.

We are to check in on October 11th and I am concerned. I would not want to add to Florida's problems by coming down and am willing to cancel my trip if that is so. With the reported shortages and such I might be taking items away from locals who are already having a hard time of it. Any input?

We are supposed to leave next Thursday for Charlotte, NC but I am thinking that the storm will proably be headed that way after FL. Am considering just staying home this fall.

SG/Linda: that is exactly what DH and I have been talking about the last couple of days. We are scheduled to be there on 10/8. We are just going to watch how things are going and make a decision as we get a little closer. We definitely don't want to take away from people that need supplies.

I live in Altamonte Springs which is 8 miles NW of Orlando. I drive 1250 miles a week for work and gas has not been a problem. Although latley I do not let my car go below 3/4 of a tank before I refuel.

If you keep your eyes open you will find there are just as many stations without gas as have gas. If they have bags over the pumps drive in anyway. A Racetrac near my house kept running out of 89 and 93 octane but always had 87.

You just may have to stop for gas more often than previous trips.

We are leaving October 9 and I can't believe we may have to cancel. I don't mean to be selfish thinking about my vacation but this is really the only time we have to go. Do you really think in a month from now there will still be shortages? I guess we can only pary for the best for our plans and for the residents.

marydmjj, it is hard to know what to do. You do not want to cause more problems for the Floridians but on the other hand tourism is awfully important to the state. I am going to wait a bit and decide later.

2Disneybuggs, I can understand where you are coming from. My heart goes out to those who have planned this vacation for such a long time and possibly scrimpled and saved to have it all fall apart. That is not taking away from the pain we feel for the local people at all. Imagine the poor people who were there for the last hurricane and were stuck in their rooms for almost two of those days without much to do. Will make a good story one day but will take a bit of time to be funnier than sad.

Hoping that the next storm dies at sea, if possible. It is hard to know what to hope for as you do not want to send it away from one place to hit another.

Oh how I relate to this one.........chocolate milk fetish? ME TOO!
While you are down here don't try the TG Lee chocolate milk you will become addicted!! I am talking the whole milk chocolate milk..........for awhile they made double chocolate and I literally sucked down a quart coming home from the grocery store (about 10 blocks!!)
I was to the grocery store this morning, they said they had delivery trucks coming and going all night trying to stock things up for Ivan and they had actually opened an hour early..........gas is hit or miss, some have it others have not, tomorrow we should be able to tell more on just where this storm is heading.

I live about 10 minutes from WDW. I went to the store today. No shortages on anything except D batteries. Plenty of milk. I also got gas. No problem.
