Gas boycott mark your calendars

This type of boycott won't do a thing. It might help to ease back on gas usage in general however. I read recently that gas usage is actually up in spite of the prices. People could also buy their gas at discount gas stations only and that might make the big oil companies take notice. But I've been told that gas supplies are all interconnected so even boycotting certain suppliers probably wouldn't do much either.

Oh well, I just bought $20 worth of gas which was half a tank  , so I can take part.

it won't accomplish anything..

we all need to buy gas to get where we're going ..
it won't lower consumption because you're still going to fill up to go where you must go.
.if it has any affect whatsoever...

the gas companies could raise prices since sales are down and then make more profit, in a day or 2 when everyone must fill up...

buying at discount stations could also affect the performance of your car,,lower gas mileage,,and possible engine damage....

PD... Your anger is justified.

I don't find the comparisons to things we can live without sensible, either. I can live the rest of my life without Snapple...OR bottled water.

I wish there was a consumer's choice. Clark Howard always tells us to "vote with our feet"... I guess the only choice we have is to walk!

Planogirl is right...the oil majors supply the gas to the smaller stations, and to each other...you really don't know where it is coming from.

If you really want to make the oil companies notice, get rid of the gas guzzling suv's and buy more fuel efficient cars.
Yes I drive a civic ex with synthentic oil that gets 34 city/39hwy and still has 127hp/ plenty of horsepower for that car.

DING DING DING!! We have a winner.

If you really want to make a difference (for your pocket book at least). Drive less. Get a fuel efficeint car. Simply putting off your purchase won't do much in the long run.

Go HYBRID, better still.

Don't buy gas on the 19th. and just pay more on the 20th.

Isn't the gas we are filling our tanks with today from oil that was pumped out 1 month ago, so what's the point. Todays oil price /barrel, will reflect in higher prices in days even though it won't be refined for weeks.

Do what ever but the oil guys and gals are just laughing all the way to the bank.

Right On.

Really? So the cost of gas has risen. Is that shocking? Is your house/apartment worth the same as when you bought/leased it? Do you pay more for groceries than you did a couple of years ago? Let's get mad at all those house builders, tradespeople, etc.. out there while we're at it.

We might GET their attention if we stopped all left our cars parked for a day. I will buy the same amount of gas this week whether or not I buy any on Wed. I don't anticipate buying any gas on Wed anyway. I am good until Fri or Sat.

It's not a noteworthy idea. It's an urban myth that's getting passed around via email.

I guess our local paper just ran an article about this today. My mom read it to me over the phone so I only remember part of it. They mentioned that although not purchasing gas on a specific day sounds like a good idea it really will not make a difference because everyone will purchase the day before or after. It also said something about a similar tactic being used against a couple gas stations in the past. I guess the idea was to get them shut down or something. (not sure, don't remember) They are still around today and that day or so didn't do much to them.
At any rate I will not be purchasing any gas on Wednesday...or today...or Thursday...or Friday...or anytime soon for my car. :o
My car will be sitting in the driveway until we decide either to fix it or sell it. It won't start and I'm stuck at home!!!

Something that would be more effective is not driving that day.

When I first heard about this (a few years ago) I thought it was one of the stupidest ideas I've ever heard. People aren't going to buy less gas that week, just possibly a different day. Big deal to the gas companies. Actually, it is such a unworkable idea it makes me want to buy gas that day - even if I don't need to.

To actually have an impact, you'd need to CUT BACK on your consumption, as others have mentioned. Try car pooling, mass transit, walking... for more than a day. My neighbor and I have been running our errands together for years now. We go to many of the same stores, so it saves on gas along with less pollution, wear and tear on our cars... We have fun too, as it is more enjoyable than by myself.

Well, you could live in in England, where gas is 80p a liter which roughly works out to four bucks a gallon.

Of course, I'm lucky enough I can take the train everywhere in this country, or the bus, or a bunch of other modes of transportation.

Wait...doesn't the states have all that?? :-)

Anyways, I'm with Bill O'Reilly; start taxing SUV's and other cars that use too much gas. As a society we need to move away from fossil fuels...they won't be there forever.

Will someone start a - Let's not buy milk thread so the price will go down? I'm more concern with that. My 21 yr old and her friend drank a whole gallon in one day! I told them to stay out of my milk and next time your thirsty reach for the bottle of Jack Daniels instead. :p

Personally, I think it would be great if it would work, which I do not think it would. My reasons for thinking it would not work are simple. My husband drives for an over the road trucking company. His company alone uses more fuel in one day than I put in my tank all year long. That is just one fleet of trucks. There are hundreds of trucking companies who cannot go without buying fuel for one day. If they did, I am sure a lot of consumers, including myself would be complaining that "this or that" was not on the shelf of the local store. You can't get 5 truck drivers to agree on something, much less an entire fleet. Without the support of the trucking industry, I don't see how us "four wheelers" would make much of a difference to the oil industry.

Just my opinion.

:smooth:
