Garmin v Chip

I am pretty new to marathoning. My Goofy was only my second 1/2 and second full. I have a Garmin which I can turn on and off at will during events.

For the Full my Chip time and my Garmin time were more than a half hour apart. During mile 1 I lost my gloves, and spent about 15-20 minutes retracing my steps trying to find the gloves (no success). I left the course at the MK to use the restroom and lost sattelites... Throw in a couple of photo ops and a muscle spasm at mile 21 (auto pause) and that was about 32 minutes.

My question is... if you are not worried about being a BQ or anything, what time should I use? My Garmin time, or the chip time?
 
I have had a time difference between my speedo clock and d-tag time, but I go with the d-tag one as that is the offical one.
 
Chip time/d-tag time is the one you wanna go by, that is the official time.

I also try to remember to turn my "auto pause" feature off. The clock and your tag don't have this feature so at least the time can stay pretty consistant and matching more of the clock time.

Chip time is the one to go by.

I have run races without official timing and for my training log only, I will use the Garmin distance and time, rather than the one clock at the end. Unofficial races where I live tend to be quite informal about the actual distance of the routes. :)

Chip time. I'm more casual about my training runs. I pause when stuck at intersections. But this is showtime and all minutes count.

Tell someone 2:30 and they find 3:00 on the web? More trouble than it's worth.
