Garment Bag on JetBlue

I'm looking for opinions on bringing a garment bag as a carry on while flying JetBlue. We need to bring suits for both my husband and teenager, because we are attending a wedding. I keep having nightmares that our luggage will get lost, so I really want to carry on a garment bag.

It's been years since I travelled for business and I can't really find a clear answer on whether people still successfully bring normal size garment bags on. Any advice? Thanks!

There is no closet in coach so you would have to fold it up to fit the dimensions for the overhead bins. For DH I put his suit jacket and pants at the top of his clothes in his checked bag, it was covered in a cleaners bag and did not get wrinkled. Will your garment bag folded up meet the carryon dimensions?

Go jetBlue.com.
Search for baggage.
Verify the dimensions for the carry-on.
Measure the garment bag.
Subtract those measurements from jetBlue's restrictions.
If your bag is smaller, you're fine; if it's larger, you'll need to check it.

When we flew from Chicago to Boston for our daughter's college graduation this Spring I wore my suit on the plane rather than having to deal with a garment bag or folding it into a suit case. We freshened it up for graduation day with a quick ironing and it was just fine. I suppose if something had spilled on it during the trip we would have had it dry cleaned.

That seemed like a better alternative than having to worry about where another piece of luggage would go - and a lot better than having a garment bag scrunched up in the overhead compartment.
