Tommy B: Thanks for the scoop on local restaurants, and feel free to give me more recommendations. I prefer mom and pop places versus chains, so if you have restaurants that you recommend (pricey or divey) within a 100 mile radius of DLR, let me know. We plan to travel all through So Cal when we are there.
We are looking specifically for:
a restaurant with a great view of the LA lights
great Mexican place
best place along the Pacific Coast Hwy to eat and view
local winery
best food truck location in LA (I've never eaten from a food truck before!)
Any suggestions?
LA is a long ways away, so you won't see them from Anaheim, if you are asking for an Anaheim restaurant.
Along Coast Highway in Orange County the "best" place is Studio at the Montage Resort, but it will cost a weeks pay. If that isn't in the cards look at Duke's in Huntington Beach (or Sandy's Beach Grill underneath), Mastro's Ocean Club in Crystal Cove, The Beachcomber on the beach, the Beach House above it, Clae's at the Hotel Laguna and the Tower at the Surf & Sand in Laguna Beach.
Great Mexican in Anaheim or anyplace in Orange County? Los Sanchez in Anaheim has down home Sonoran style Mexican food, but Casa Oaxaca, Las Brisas De Apatzingan and La Cocina De Mi Abuelita in Santa Ana are all better (just South of Anaheim) and so are Gabbi's Mexican Kitchen, but this is upscale, foodie Mexican food, not hole-in-the-wall Mexican food and Ostioneria Bahia Mexican Seafood #1 & #2 which are kind of hole-in-the-wall-ish, in Orange (just east).
The nearest wineries are about 2 hours away in Temecula or Santa Barbara.
Here are good links for food trucks.

I have high blood pressure, I regulate with diet not with medication. I do not have BP spikes when I eat at PF Chang's.
It is called "hyperbole",

exaggeration to make a point. PF Chang's food does have very high sodium compared to the normal, Chinese counterpart.
