Garden View Tea Room Question

I'm planning to take my DD who will be 7 at the time. She's a tea lover, so my question is - Can I request tea for her kids tea instead of chocolate milk?

DS hasn't ordered the kid tea with the milk. Instead, and this is since the changes, once we ordered packages for me and DH they allowed an la carte order of extra tea. The "princess" tea (called "prince" when a boy orders it) is herbal and caffeine free and there's no issue with a child getting it. So it's possible you can request that.

I think that the tea room does do a good job of accommodating, it is a bit different with the changes, but they still were able to give dd her favorite blend of tea, that wasn't on the menu - its so different now that they make the tea and there is no leaves and tea strainers, but its still a relaxing time in a nice a/c quiet area.

I asked because it mentions "chocolate milk" as their tea with no other options mentioned listed for children.

They are very accommodating at the Garden Tea Room. The kids can have hot chocolate, chocolate milk, different choices of juices, white milk, soda, lemonade, and even tea if they are interested. My girls who are now old enough to be on the adult menu are not tea drinkers and they still allowed them to get what they want instead. Also, since my kids really don't care for the finger sandwiches that come with the packages, they allow my girls to get the ham and cheese sandwiches as long as I paid for the adult price for them, and the staff had no problems.

It's been a few years since we've done this but what are the "changes" referenced?

1) No longer can you order ala carte. You MUST order a package. With package, you may add ala carte items. It seems lots of folks came and did not spend a lot of money. They would just do ala carte. In fact, some simply ordered tea and nothing to eat, or just a few pastries. Disney is in the biz of big revenue, hence the change. Dollars-per-chair-per-hour. The Afternoon Tea is not on the Disney Dining Plan. No sharing of plates to reduce the price per-person.
.
2) Disney changed the menu and prices, again. The prices are now OUTRAGEOUS; maybe the famous PT Barnum was put in charge of the menu & pricing. The prices are ridiculously high. I have taken The WDW Tea off my recommended list. We do not expect to return to it soon. I have taken The WDW Tea off my recommended list for guests who come to my desk.
.
3) This is not up to the par of A TRUE High Tea or the Afternoon Tea, but it is a good way to spend an afternoon. I actually prefer the Tea at Waldorf Astoria on property and it's less expensive than the WDW Tea, even for the better tea selections.

TheRustyScupper....does Waldorf Astoria do anything special for Christmas? We'll be there Nov and Dec and would love to do a Christmas tea somewhere (they have them at all the 4/5* hotels here at home, but been there, done that over the years.)

Thanks

Thanks Rusty. I just looked at the menu and what got me is the note that there is a charge for additional pots of tea. Does this mean that they only grant one pot per person now or is it worded like that to keep people from ordering one platter and two people drinking the same pot of tea? I really enjoyed the hibiscus tea over ice and would always get a second press.

It cost $3 extra to order tea instead of chocolate milk for the kid's meal last time we were there, but was definitely available. Once I added that cost, it made sense to just order the adult tea with the additional items included. This was in November 2014, before the latest menu re-working.
