Hi all,

Has anyone ever had Afternoon Tea at Garden View Tea Room in the GF??

I really like the look of this but can't find any reviews.

What are the options? Dress code? Ok for a 2yr old?

Many thanks in advance!!

We went to the Grand Floridian Tea Room in January 2010, it was wonderful! I think it is one of my favorite dining experiences at Disney World. The food was very nice, and the tea was delicious.

The dress code was fairly casual, I wore jeans and a Winnie the Pooh fleece sweater, but I did notice older patrons were a little more dressed up. I think your 2 year old would be fine, although it was kind of quiet when we went, I don't recall seeing any children but if I had a child at the time I would absolutely have taken them!

We have done the Afternoon Tea at GF a couple times and loved it everytime! It is really a nice experience. You can choose a lot of different options. If you go to Allears.net and go to menus, you will find what they have to offer. I highly recommend going! We have wore dresses before, but last year we just wore shorts and a decent shirt. My DD(8) loves it, we took her the first time when she was 5. I think it would be fine for your 2 year old.

We loved it also-keep in mind there were 7 of us and it took about 2 hours.

It is very quiet in there. We wore capris and blouses with sandals-guys wore collared shirts and long shorts (or dockers) but there was a real variety throughout the room.

I took my oldest daughter a few years ago and we loved it! Now my youngest daughter and I are going to go for our trip in June. :goodvibes You should have no problems taking your two year old. It is a really fun experience and it restaurant itself is lovely. I think the allears website has reviews you could look through. :thumbsup2

When we went, we were on our way to MNSSHP so we were wearing jeans and Halloween T-shirts. At the table next to us were women all dressed in nice dresses.

The restaurant is small and very quiet. It's a great way to relax for two hours.

I went with one of the breast cancer gals, snappy. We had a wonderful time.

Very relaxing. I just wore slacks and a nice shirt.

Our server was excellent. I think it was Patricia. We asked for her from another posters (sha) recommendation.

We chose the Mad Hatter Tea. I dont kow if it is on the regular menu, but we were told of this special choice.

I know there were 2 things I really didnt care for on the service. I think one was the onion tart. Way too strong a taste for me and one of the sand. I cant remember. Everything else was fantastic and we got to sub something for the trifle and it was excellent. The strawberries and cream someone had at the next table looked amazing too.

You will have a great time.

I wanted to take my two daughters to this. They are very excited! Daddy is going to take the toddler boy to the pool and the girls are going to the tea. Do you know if we need to make reservations for this?

I also have two questions -- 1. I only drink herbal tea. Do you think this will be a problem, and 2. my biggest worry, I am newly diagnosed with food intolerances to gluten and dairy. I am thinking my girls are going to be the only ones eating food?:guilty:

Here is a list of teas they have, they also have a bowl of fresh strawberries you could order, however they may have some gluten free options as well
Traditional Tea Selections
Tea selections are $6.25 per person

Taste of Summer - Delicate Refreshing and Floral.

Organic Lychee Green - Perfumed in the Traditional Chinese manner with the sweet and complex bouquet of lychee.

Cassis - An exceptionally aromatic tea with a rich black currant flavor that balances on the edge of the cup. This tea always reminds one of our founders of his childhood afternoons spent with his Grandmother.

Organic Tangerine Rooibos - A healthful cup of organic Rooibos from South Africa, infused with the sweet character of sunny citrus. Enjoy both hot and over ice.

Mountain Berry - Saskatoon berries (native to Canada), currants raisins and blueberries.

Custom Blends
Made exclusively for Gardenview Tea Room.

Gardenview Blend - A signature blend made exclusively for Gardenview Tea Room.

Princess Breakfast Tea - A sweet custom blend of South African organic rooibos flavored with vanilla bean and a hint of strawberries. Rich in antioxidants and vitamins, and naturally decaffeinated.

Green and White Teas

Silver Leaf - A white tea harvested from south of the Yangtze river region. A very delicate flavor.

Black Teas

Imperial English Breakfast - Elegant and refined smooth sweetness. A blend of Ceylon and China Black Teas. Decaf English Breakfast also available.

Russian Earl Grey - Inspired by the old tradition of shipping tea with lemon for flavor: Made from the rind of spicy Bergamot orange to give the exotic blend of citrus.

Eros - Medium bodied Ceylon: Sweet Mandarin orange with warm vanilla for a sweet, smooth and creamy finish.

Thunderbolt Darjeeling - Thin bodied light tea with a floral aroma. The tea holds a distinctive tannic characteristic and a musky spiciness. It is often referred to by tea connoisseurs as muscatel, a grape varietal found in sweeter wines.

Herbal Infusion

Harmony - A tranquil blend of sweet chamomile blossoms, peppermint, allspice and orange blossoms for a mild and sweet taste.

Chamomile Flowers - A tranquil and calming herbal infusion of sweet and fragrant golden chamomile blossoms combined for a mild and sweet taste. Soft and musty aroma combined with a smooth, apple-like finish.

Vanilla Rooibos - Rich and full bodied with creamy vanilla finish.

Nobo Whole Fruit - Full bodied and rich in sweetness. An array of berries and apple, accompanied with hibiscus, rose hips, and cornflowers.

Green Leaves: Green tea is grown mostly in Taiwan, China and Japan. China green tea is known for its mild and subtle tastes, refreshing aromas and pale hues of the teas.

White Leaves: Originally harvested in the northern Fujian province of China from wild tea bushes, White teas are highly prized because of they consist of top buds and leaves only.

Black Leaves: Black tea is grown in China, India, Sri Lanka and Africa. It is the most common type of tea in the Western world.

Herbal Infusions: A collection of herbs, flowers, fruits, berries and spices from around the world. Herbal infusions are naturally caffeine free.

Oolong Tea: Oolong is a semi-fermented tea. It undergoes the same treatment as black tea, only it is fermented for less time than black. Instead of rolling the leaf, only the edges of each leaf are rolled.

*Wine and Spirits available upon request.

I did this with my mom last month and it was a great time! I think it would be perfectly acceptable for a two year old to join you.

The food is super good, although if I went again, I would try to trifle instead of the pastries at the end :) The scone was amazing.

My fiance and I did afternoon tea and LOVED it. Its very nice/quiet. I think he wore plaid shorts and a collared shirt and I wore a skirt maybe?

Frankly, I think a two year old might be bored. Its very adult and depending on the type of child your two year old is during sit down meals, I would play it by ear. I can think of a bunch of better ways to spend the money (since its OOP) than sitting down in a quiet tea room with an active two year old.

That being said, some two year olds would be okay...I'm just saying a really active kid that has become used to some of the stimulation of other Disney meals might act out.

There were two kids at the table next to us, but I think they we probably more like 4 and 6.

Do you know if we need to make reservations for this?

Yes, make reservations for it!

We ended up getting to Grand Floridian early and they were able to accommodate us, but since they take reservations, I think I would make them, especially since A.) You are traveling with kids and B.) There is only a limited amount of time that they serve tea.

Dress code: we dressed up, got all pretty. Just felt right. There were more casual people in the room, but WE were glad that WE dressed up a bit.

Food: you can order a set "meal" or you can order a la carte. The bowl of strawberries is lovely, but does have creme fraiche on it. I'm sure it could be ordered without that. LOTS of herbal teas!

2 year old: With my personal, exact 2 year old (when he was 2) there's no chance in heck I would have taken him. He was fine sitting at dinner tables as long as there was some noise around him (like at my friend's raucous wedding reception), but a quiet, calm space like that? Oh no, not with my particular kidlet. But thinking of a friend's daughter, when SHE was 2, oh definitely. She would have been great, as long as she didn't have too much sugar (she got louder the more sugar she had, LOL).

Is it for kids at all?: Yes. They even have a "tea" for kids. The adults in my group ordered tea and one food item. But for the 4 year old in the group (and let me tell you we had concerns about taking her since she can be rambunctious!) we got the Mrs Potter's tea, which was finger sandwiches (and you can change the types of sandwiches you get...this 4 year old can't have peanut butter so they just got an extra ham sandwich instead) and a choice of two goodies, along with chocolate milk from a little pot. The server came by to refill her teacup (and she was PERFECT with the china teacup, she surprised us so much!) and twice he did the type of pour where he took the teapot WAY up in the air while pouring, and AMAZED the 4 year old. She was literally speechless at the production. She clapped her hands over her mouth as if just to breathe would cause him to spill. It was fabulous. :)

And if you are extra lucky, you'll get to see a bridal couple having their pictures taken in the little garden outside the big windows, like we did. We all loved that. :goodvibes
