I have a question about the sandwiches that come with the children's tea. Is it a sampling or does the child pick the type of sandwich they want (tuna salad, ham and cheese or pb&j)? Do they accept special requests for sandwiches? What kind of cheese on the ham sandwich (she is asking for swiss )?

The last time we took a child to tea with us, it was one of each type on the plate. The ham and cheese was more of a cheddar/american (yellow) than swiss. You can't change that, but if you asked them to bring all one type or whatever they have never had a problem doing that. (We order the Buckingham and my mom always substitutes something else for her shrimp salad sandwich, like another pear or watercress one).

It's served to mirror the adult sandwich course, which is one each of 5 or 6 kinds arranged on a plate.

thanks...she wants to go there but I don't want to take her if she isn't going to eat. Sounds like she would eat the tuna and the ham (no cheese...she vetoed the american ). So I am still going to think about it.

If she wanted all tuna, they would bring her three of those if that's all she wanted.

Another option, if she would rather have berries and cream or jam tarts or something, is to order her stuff a la carte - you can order individual items if you don't want what is in a package. The 'tea' in the youngsters' tea is chocolate milk, which can also be ordered a la carte.

We've had tea with my cousin's daughter who ordered apple juice and berries and cream, instead of opting for the kids' tea package. She ate some of the grown ladies' stuff too - my jam tart, some of her mother's trifle, etc. She just drank her juice out of a teacup, and all was well.
