Garden View at GF?

My husband and I have a garden view room booked for the holidays at the Grand Floridian. We were unable to book a lagoon view as we are military and received an overflow rate through Shades of Green (a super low rate, so I guess we can't complain). My question relates to balconies. All of the books I have looked in state that "most rooms have balconies". Which rooms do not and is there a chance that we'll get on of them? This is our reunion vacation after a long year of Iraq seperation, so I want it to be as special as possible.

Also, do they give the worst views in the place to military since we got such a good rate?

If we want quiet and romance for our reunion, which building should we requset?

Thanks,
Adrianna

I'm pretty sure all of the garden view rooms have balconies.
If you want a quiet and romantic area, I would suggest that you request to be in Sago Cay. It has view of either the marina or a monorail/water view. I really like the dormer rooms which are on the top floor and have a vaulted ceiling. Sago Cay is decorated in a Swam theme.

Here is a link to a map of the Grand Floridian so you can get a better idea of the layout of the resort (to get a better view of the map, zoom in): http://www.disneytravelagents.com/images/maps/map_wdw_grandfloridian.pdf

I haven't stayed in Sago Cay, we've only stayed in Conch Key but Sago Cay looked like a perfect building to stay in. We're even thinking about requesting it for our next trip. :flower:

No, they don't give the worst views to the military or people who got a great rate. :goodvibes We got a great Annual Passport rate and had a fantastic view.

My guess is that "most rooms have balconies" has to do with the first floor rooms having patios instead. I don't know of any of the outlying building rooms that don't have a full balcony or a patio, but there could be some main building room that has a partial because a part of the roof is blocking or something, I don't know.

For garden views, we've never had a bad one, but they've all been in Big Pine Key and were around the quiet pool area. They mostly face the landscaping, a pool cabana structure and the pool/ jacuzzi. We've stayed in Boca Chica and Sago Cay, also, but on the sides that were facing the lagoon in lagoon categories. In Sago Cay we had the same decor as any other room--the Alice in Wonderland theme, and once had a dormer type room on the top floor. This room had the smallest balcony, actually, but the view was spectacular so I didn't notice.

Thank you! I really want to have this be a special vacation. It's wonderful to feel that there are complete strangers willing to take the time help us have a magical Chrismas vacation. This site is the best.

Adrianna, I replied to your message, but I did want to address the "most rooms have balconies" statement that is reported.

With the exception of the top floor, all standard guestrooms have a full balcony (or enclosed patio for ground floor rooms).

The top floor standard guestrooms, also known as a dormer room, has a much smaller balcony with a solid railing.

Lodge Tower rooms, the one's located in the outer buildings, do not have balconies for their top floor rooms (due to the slanted roof line).

Main building concierge rooms all have balconies with the exception of the 6 turret honeymoon suites.
