Still trying to figure out our food costs for our first family trip....

I saw on the DVC Member site that you can order groceries; just fill out the form and fax it to the front desk. But I noticed that some folks on the board like to use Garden Grocer. Is there a cost advantage for using Garden Grocer?

I looked at the prices on both, and they seem pretty comparable overall.

TIA!

Not really sure on the specific costs of using GG or direct thru Disney, but we used GG for our last trip and it was great. Not sure how much your buying, but would imagine that Disney ain't gonna be the cheapest alternative :rotfl2:

We use GG on several occasions and absolutely loved it. They are such a great service to have. They go out of their way to help!!

I could be wrong, but I recall my guide saying that Disney only charged $5.00 plus the cost of groceries to do your shopping for you. Although I don't see any kitchen usage in my vacation future, if we ever decide to use the service, we will likely go through Disney. Seems like a lot less hassle.

Garden Grocer will also pick up beer and wine for you- Call their toll free number and they will tell you how to order alcoholic beverages

I also saw that Disney will deliver your groceries for only $5.
That seems like a pretty good deal to me. I work at a grocery store and the prices on key items seem to be right about average. I confess that there are a few rip ofss :headache: but for the most part seems like a good deal.

I did not realize that GG would get the alcohol for you though......tough decision!

We fly our early, rent a car, have lunch and pick up groceries. We usually arrive at the resort around 3 and room is usually ready. We found we save more money (even with paying for the car) and buying exactly the cheaper groceries we want.

Sign up for Magical Express and let them take the bags to the resort (this way you can rent a smaller car without your bags).

Rent a car from Alamo from the airport (MCOT71) and drop off at the Disney Car Care Center (ORLR72). If you book ahead, you can get a decent size car for $50 for a 24 hour period. I usually return that afternoon.

Bring $1 bills and some quarter. Most major roads around the airport are toll roads. I think you pay 2 x $1.00 and 2 x $.50.

Take the south exit to 417. Follow the signs towards WDW. Take the Orange Blossom Trail exit. After paying $.50 toll, you will be looking at a strip center with an Albertsons (grocery & LIQUOR store). In that same strip center is a Chick Fil A and Ruby Tuesday. There is a Super Target to the right and and a Costco about 5 minutes to the left. When you are done, get back on 417 and follow the signs to WDW.

The Disney Car Care Center is just past the driving gate (where off site people pay to park) to the Magic Kindgom. When you go through the toll plaza, stay as far to the left as possible. You should have a parking pass from your resort, so they will just waive you through. The entrance to the car care center and HESS gas station is to the left. Put in the $5 of gas you burned and return the car. Alamo has a free shuttle back to the resorts & parks. Tip the guy $2.

We have done this a dozen times and it works perfectly.

If you want our standard grocery list, send me a PM.

I think the groceries you can get from Disney are limited to what you could get from the grocery services like Garden Grocer. If you use a car service like we do, you get a grocery stop and that is when we stock up for the trip. Then if we run out of somthing we will get stuff from the little stores at each resort. We don't do major cooking though. We basically buy water, soda for dh, snacks, some breakfast items, laundry stuff.
