:)I am just wondering if anyone else is having a garage sale to earn money for their trip. My sister and I are this weekend. We were going to skip this year but changed our minds. Big sales to all, it is a lot of work.

lol - we just had one last weekend. I couldn't beleive how much work it was to get it all ready - in the end we made $350 - and on Sunday afternoon when it was over we put the stuff we couldn't sell out as free - and within 1 hour it was all gone.

Good Luck

I am prepping for one on 6/20. Going through all rooms, all cupboards, all closets, basement and garage. We had 2 in 07 (we moved), 2 in 08 (we moved too much stuff) and only 1 for 09. It is really hard to believe that we have so much STUFF.

I always have a hard time with pricing everything. You know put it on/in a table or box with 1 price or price each item. I don't ever know what's going to work.

we're doing this, too, but to help pay for college. my DD coldn't find a summer job--many of the usual college kid jobs have either been eliminated or have gone to adults who need them to support their families. so we told DD she could do all the work for the sale and keep all the money. i hopefully get a cleaned house and she gets money for college expenses. wish us luck!!!

We did one, too. Made around $335. And I had priced stuff to sell.....50 cents, $1, $2, etc.

As I was putting out the stuff, it was heartbroken all the $$ spent on these items that we were selling so cheap. But, having done this before, I know that you have to price to sell. Another tip is make sure things are clean and work!

One woman came over and asked me to set stuff aside for her, so she could go get her money. She said "oh, you have nice stuff and all priced so well!"

Hope all goes well for you!!!

We're having one. I always underestimate the time and work. But...trying to make enough money for MNSSHP. I've never been and really want to go. This is my way to spend the money on it.
Good luck to everyone having one. Hope you make lots of $$$$$$$$$$$

We are actually having one this weekend. I have been going through stuff all week and still have a lot more to go through. Our trip isn't until September so if I need to I can always have another one before we go. We usually make anywhere between $300-500 at our yard sales so I am hoping this one does just as good as the previous ones.

Wash those stuffed animals. We did four loads of animals in the washer and dryer (finish drying in front of a fan). We put out a sign saying we did this and they sold like crazy. Surprisingly none of the colors ran. We had one lady buy a pair of fuzzy, yellow Pokemon slippers for her dog to play with. Others looked for squeeky animals for their pets.

We also did ziploc bags of misc. toys, McDonalds, etc. and priced them .25 to 1.00. We had six large boxes of these and had only two boxes left. Grandma's go through these to have toys at their house.

We made $476 in two days. We switched to $5 a bag on the last day, but few people went for the bags and just bought what they needed.

I had one about 2 weeks ago. I did price the large stuff (sold a few items for $20), but for the most part it was toddler clothes (.50 an item). We made about $400 which was great for one day.

We did neighborhood garage sale several week ends ago and made over $400 for our trip. One tip that I have learned is that as kids outgrow clothes, wash and then price and pack away in tubs by size and season. Helps save time when ready to have garage sale. Also, we post on Craigs list several days in advance and have a fairly extensive list of items compared to the ad that we place in the paper. Our sales have always been well attended and not to much negotiating prices with the buyers. Good luck.

Day one of the garage sale went well. A total of about $500 between 3 of us. Two more days to go.

I am planning on doing a one day sale at my house, I have tons of clothes sized 4 (as I no longer fit into them), and hope people will be looking for smaller sizes. Good idea to go through the dog junk (toys, collars, leashes, etc.). I would be ecstatic to make $300-$400 for our November trip. To pay for one of the two annual passes!
