The ones that I am stumped on
Disney Princess dresses- all with at least one accesory(shoes or crown or glove)

Britax Marathon Car Seat in Tan

A Combi double side by side stroller (sells now for $219) Is about 2 years old with missing front bar.

people want stuff cheap cheap. I have purchased Disney dresses for $1 each (and consigned them afterward for $10. I think I sold a nice Snow White one for $5. You'd probably get more form Craigslist around Halloween.

I sold my Britax Husky that 2 years of life left in it for $75 on Craigslist. I have seen tons of Britaxs at sales not sell. I would list it high and put it on CL. Remember that they expire after 6 years, so be honest with how much time it is safe to use it.

Have fun! We're having a sale next week too.

What would YOU pay for it if you saw it at a sale? That's how I price my items. You can't price them for what you really want to get out of them because you won't get that. My mother goes to yard sales frequently and never wants to spend over a $1 for a clothing item but now that she needs to have a sale, she wants to price everything over $1, you can't price more than people will pay.

i have a ton of stuff i need to start pricing for my yard sale tomorrow. And i have no idea how to price it. A lot of it i know people will ask for it cheaper, so i'm trying to plan accordingly. I'm sure you could mark something for a quarter and they'd ask for it for a nickle.

I thought you weren't supposed to sell a used car seat... Or are you never supposed to buy one from a goodwill?

I found that people nickle and dime on the cheap stuff- if it's 25 cents they'll ask for 2 for 25 cents. Whatever- I get that there are those super bargain shoppers that want to feel like they got over on me. So I am willing to do that on a bunch of stuff that I just want to get rid of.

Fingers crossed that it goes well. I am a bit nervous about a "neighborhood" presale- where the neighbors come around first and pick you dry.

I would say maybe $10 for car seats. You really arent' supposed to buy used car seats and you can get them free at various events. The stroller I would say 25 to 50. I agree that people are looking for deals.

Tinkerbell is going for $2 and the others I'm going to start at $5 but willing to sell what I can for what I can get. I am thinking my neighbor is going to want them all anyway.

so, those of us with gently used or almost new baby items to sell would be better off with a newspaper ad or craigslist?

the rule of thumb in our area is tops 25% of retail for good condition items such as carseats and strollers... so if a britax is approx $200, you might start by listing it for $50 but be prepared to accept $25 (if that makes sense)...

and free. I would definitely start there. I have sold quite a few things for a lot more $$ than I would have gotten at a garage sale.

See, and I've found Craigs List to be a royal pain in the neck! I listed a car seat, stroller, pack & play, and glider rocker on there. People e-mail, they want it, can I hold it, can I do better with the price, they're coming to get it, they cancel or don't show up, then e-mail a few days later to see if I still have it, can I deliver it, will I take a check, they swear they're coming, they forgot, lost the directions, got lost, show up with less money than they were supposed to...on and on and on. It's soooo not worth it to me. From now on, everything gets donated!

My experience exactly!:rotfl:

But I did combine CL and a garage sale a couple weeks ago. I posted ads on CL for several big items I was selling (washer/dryer, crib, etc.) I posted photos and the price, but I said "Available at my garage sale at 8 a.m. Saturday, near corner of X and Y streets (they'd be able to find me when my sale started, but couldn't knock on my door at 6 a.m.). Cash only. No early sales, and I won't hold the items."

I did get a couple emails asking me to hold/sell early, which I ignored. I sold to the first people who showed up with cash. It worked great, and I didn't have to deal with people coming to the house when DH wasn't home, or not showing up on time.

DRUMROLL PLEASE

Princess dresses sold - 3 went at $2 each and 2 (cinderella and sleeping beauty) went for $5 each!!

Stroller sold in a batch of stuff so I would estimate about $20 for the Combi(great buy)

I held my ground on a few items and got what I wanted so I am happy.
Successful yard sale - we sold almost everything and made a little over $300 for junk that was filling my basement! (oh just sold something else- now we are at $350. Yard sale closed!)

lucky you... I've made 50$ all day. And barely anything has gone. I swear people always ask for half of what you say... Even if i say two bucks. And then if i go down in price for them, they hand me a 20....seriously???

They want things for 5% of the cost. Even if it's pratically new/barely used.

Although i lost some good selling times because the wind blew away my sign. I did find across the street and the posts were still in the ground. I had a few cars coming and then for like 20-30 mins nothing. So i strolled to the street corner to find the sign gone.

A couple things i learned. Tape the sign well to your posts. And pour water on the ground where you want to stick the post in. It helps soften the dirt to let it go down, and allows the dirt to form around the posts. The dirt here is so dry and hard, i could barely get them in.

And my sure fire way to make a few dollars more... Yeah, i've been drinking my profits all day. Only sold two sodas.
I need to make a better craig list ad for tomorrow and next weekend.
