We are having yet another garage sale in August to help fund our Disney habit, and I'm wondering if anyone has any other suggestions for separating clothing sizes on a table? I usually just use cardboard to make dividers, but I'm looking for a better idea.
Any other garage sale tips??....trying to make my life easier before I tackle the huge piles in our basement!
TIA!!

We hung a heavy duty metal chain in our garage using steel hooks from the hardware store at each side and one from the ceiling. Don't underestimate how heavy little clothes can be!

I hung all the clothes in size order from smallest to largest. We had a separate portable clothing rack that I hung all the pjs and costumes on.

I got free wire hangers from the dry cleaners and safety pins from the dollar store.

We got a lot of compliments on how organized it was and we sold a ton!

Good luck with your sale!

I'm thinking of having my first garage sale in the fall so I'm curious as to any tips too.

What do you think the clothes should be priced at? I'm thinking $1 each item??

I do not fold/lay clothing on a table to sell. I prefer to hang the clothing on racks. I think people are more apt to look at clothing that is hanging up, rather than having to pick it up off a table, unfold it, etc. to look at it. I am a frequent shopper at yard sales & I know I won't usually take the time to go thru boxes of clothes on the ground or stacks of clothing on tables.

Target sells clothing/garment racks & I stocked up one time when they were on sale. I have about 3 or 4 which I pull out every time I have a yard sale. In between yard sales, they are great for extra clothing storage.

I don't separate the clothing sizes. What I do is have one rack for boy's clothes, another for girls clothes, another for adult clothing, & usually a fourth is extra.

We usually do $.50 to $1.00 on most items. Anything much more than that really doesn't sell. The kids clothes go really fast though!

I started setting up today. Was thinking abot having one tomorrow, but I have too much stuff, so I will move it to next weekend. There is no way I could hang all of my stuff!

I lay it on a table in size order. Not on top of each other, but overlapping a little. All the girls starting small to large, then the same with the boys. I write the size of the item on the tag with the price so it makes it easier. They do not have to unfold it to see the size. I do hang dresses, coats, skirts and some sets. If I did clothing racks I would need at least 10.

As for the prices. I price by the shape that the clothes are in and if it is a name brand. You can get a little more for name brands, since some people are picky about that. Jeans are worth more than leggings. You really cannot do $1 for each item as a onezie is not going to sell for that and you could get more than $1 out of a winter coat.

My biggest tip would be when you box it all up. Start with the bigger stuff on the bottom so the small stuff in on the top for next time.

we just had our second yard sale of the year (and last for a long time!)

We had a ton of clothes to sell. DH used two ladders with a pipe running between to hang clothes on. We hung up dress clothes, coats, and costumes. Then I added name brand kid outfits (top and bottom, matching accessories).

I never thought about dividers for the tables though. We did hang signs in front of the tables that had the sizes written on them (Girls 0-6 months, etc.)

We posted a list of specific items in our Craig's list ad. People came looking for specific items, so I think that really helped. In hindsight, I wish we had set up the sale in time to take pictures. I just saw an ad where they had included a link to Photobucket where you could see a slideshow of the many items in the sale. But dh did put in photos of the big ticket items (most did sell).

Good luck!

I hang everything on those laUndry racks...........I always separated boys from girls but did not go crazy with sizing...as long as they can see them....

I hang clothes from a rope that is tied between the garage door tracks. I use clothes pins that I have taped the size on. Then if the clothes shift, the clothes pins still keep the clothes in their proper place. I usually break the sizes down 0-3 m, 3-6 m, 6-9 m, 12m, etc.
