Garage Sale Advice Please

I am going to try to sell my DD's baby clothes this weekend, but I need advice on how to display them and keep the sets together. I don't have enough hangers to hang everything so I was going to reserve that for the nicer pieces, but most of the smaller size clothes are 2 and 3 piece sets. Anyone have any idea how to prevent the outfits from being separated?

My preference would be to put all the pieces together in one Ziploc bag. You might also safety-pin pieces together so that if someone does take the pieces out, they stay attached. Write on the Ziploc or on a label on the Ziploc what brand and what size the outfit is. And price.

I would put sets in ziploc bags if you can't hang them together.

Just my personal experience, clothes don't sell for much around here, even sets and name brand. I do 50 cents a piece, in your case with sets I would probably do $1 at a yardsale. Yard sale shoppers don't care about brand, they care about cheap, cheap, cheap.

I consign most of my kids clothes at one of the big sales (JBF). I pretty much have basic clothes (Target, Walmart, Carters, Childrens Place) and nothing fancy. I get at least triple what I would get at a yard sale and I price my things to sell there. I make out very well. Bonus in that most of the stuff I buy there, my kids where a season, and then I sell the next year at the same prices I paid, so I pretty much dress them for free.

My garage sale tips ( I do one big one every year, and we do pretty good).

As above, safety pins or giant zippy bags work great. You can also use masking tape to tape together some things.

Advertise, advertise, advertise! Put an ad in your local paper (ours includes the website for free) and elsewhere, put signs on major intersections near your neighborhood, and use little arrows or colored paper to give directions if hard to find.

Make sure to put baby things, and gender and size range in your ad. Folks in my area go gaga for baby stuff so put those items in.

I bought some great plastic signs a couple years ago at the dollar store. I just put our address, (No day or time) so I can reuse them.

Price everything clearly.

Clothespins and I agree with the baggies as well. I always bagged up hair bows, earrings and jewelry as well. They sell much better when accessories are bagged I have found.

Definitely price to sell. Baby clothes are a dime a dozen at yard sales....everyone is selling them!! They would probably move quickly at .25 cents an item or fill a grocery bag for $3-5. It's the larger kids clothes that go a bit higher at .50- $1 a piece. I yard sale just about every weekend and my kid's wardrobe is entirely made up of yard sale items. I feel bad when I walk into a sale and you can tell the person spent HOURS tagging/hanging/individually pricing items at $2-$5 per outfit. I usually just glance around and bid them a "nice day" and head over to the next sale and stock up on the .25 cent clothes. Good luck! Yard sales are a lot of work, but if you price things well, they should move. I had a sale last year. Priced all my clothes at .25 cents each. Put out in laundry baskets organized by gender/size. Everyone commented on how well it was organized. It was super easy and saved tons of time vs. individually pricing everything. Toys were .10 cents-.25 cents. Exersacuer $5, baby swing $10 and so on. I easily made over $200 because I sold just about everything. I was so happy I didn't have to haul a bunch of stuff back to the basement or to goodwill....

In our area clothes at yard sales go for next to nothing. People will offer you 50 cents for all 3 pieces. I suggest that you think about eBay, if they are in good condition, clean without stains, holes and such you should be able to auction them easily enough. Start at .99 plus shipping around 4 to 5 dollars. I have been cleaning out my closets and listing on eBay and I have been getting around 3 to 5 dollars for 1 shirt plus shipping. It's a lot more than I would have every gotten at a yard sale.

Just a suggestion.
