$100 Bargain Works, PS3 Sales Up by 2800%

I have been gone for a while and that is because I got lost in the internet.

But anyway if any of you pay a little attention to other gaming systems you would have learned that the PS3 dropped the price of it's 60 GB system by $100 (hence the title of this topic.)

But I got the full story here.

Finally, the much talked about PS3 price-cut is official and will come in action this August. Sony has dropped the price of 60GB PS3 by $100 (now $500) i.e. approx 17%. Although, discounted PS3 is yet to ship to retail stores across the US, the PS3 sales has started showing an upsurge. As per online retailer Amazon, the PS3 sales has filed a long leap of 2800% in its sales since the announcement of price-cut. The retailer reports that the console has become the top selling item on the videogames category list.

Keeping in mind that the price-cut would come into effect from next month, we’ll have to wait and see whether the sales would continue with a gain or plunge down after some time is a tetchy riddle to solve. Whatsoever, Sony is making money, hence would surely be delighted to see the rocketing sales after a long spell of prolonged crisis and wish it to persist for a few more months to get things in order.

Despite the $100 price-cut, the PS3 is still the most expensive console in the next-gen array, so it’s really hard to predict what will happen.

We can hear whispers of an Xbox360 price-cut around the corner, but reacting promptly, Microsoft said that presently they have no such plans.

Here is what a Microsoft official has to say on current PS3 sales:

This is nothing other than an immediate impact that announcement (PS3 price-cut) leaves, it won’t last longer.

Few under-mentioned reasons can turn MS official’s words wrong; let’s see how much I succeed:

• Whether it is graphics measures or storage capacity, Blu-Ray will eventually survive

• PS3 lineup is going really to excel; you are nowhere to get exclusive titles like MGS4, Heavenly Sword, GTA 4 (maybe Resistance: Fall of Man)

• The Wii is a sprinter whereas PS3 a marathon-racer; Wii fad will get obsolete shortly

• Few pleasing mini-games and God Of war III (probably coming to PS3)

• SIXAXIS’ rumble control

Eventually, 17% cut aims to woo buyers from Nintendo’s top-selling Wii. Will Microsoft follow suit with its Xbox360?

Alright, here goes.

Has anyone seen the trailer for the new Call of Duty, or seen it played? I swear to god, it's amazing. There's all kinds of crazy stuff going on in the trailer, people react accordingly when shot, the graphics are beautiful. This game is looking amazing.

Bioshock. If you haven't heard of this game yet, may the lord have mercy on your soul. Bioshock, a spiritual successor to the System Shock series, takes place in the 30's (or right around there.) You're in some happy little tank thing and go under the sea to explore a sunken city, infested with a helpful little Parasite called A.D.A.M. This game is not like your normal FPS, where you sprint around with your ridiculously overpowered gun shooting everything that moves. It will challenge you to see different ways to dispatch your enemies. There is a trailer for this game showing exactly how this works: in one area (The Fishery,) there are at least three ways to make it through here. The first shown is to charge guns blazing through the level, which didn't work. The second was to think more carefully, using your "spells," which were gained by using the parasites you had collected. In one of the more devious parts, the player set some people on fire, and when they dived into some water to put out the flames, he electrocuted the water, killing the enemies. Finally, more or less an addition to these two, the player decided to use a spell to hack turrets and use traps, as well as require the help of one of the "Big Daddies" a behemoth who protects children infested with the parasite. This appeared to make the stage much easier, and when he eventually killed the "Big Daddy" he left the watchers with a choice they would be making many times in the game: kill the child with the parasite to harvest it, or save it.

An update on SSBB (Since I have a deficit of Wii related stories .) The website (smashbros.com) has gone live once more, providing updates on the game. Introducing Assist Trophies. Assist Trophies are special items in the game that will allow you to, when picked up, summon a character to your aid. The Nintendog, seen in the trailer, is an example of this, cutting off vision on the screen. Others announced are Samurai Goro and Dr. Wright.

God of War: Chains of Olympus. At long last, a new God of War game! Coming out eventually for the PSP, this game takes place prior to the first game, allowing those of you who missed out on the first or second (or both,) to find a good starting place for your bloody path through Ancient Greek Mythos. Starting shortly after the Barbarian battle where you are brutal beaten (maybe the tutorial level is that battle,) Kratos, the main character, is under the service of Aries, the God of War. Basically, this game will give a better back story than what was given in the first game. From what I've heard, the graphics for this are supposed to be really really good for a hanheld system.

And finally, for those of you who bought a PS3, LittleBigPlanet. This game is pretty much an online interaction game with other players. You have an area, and you can build in this with other players. The cool part is what you can build. I strongly urge anyone who is interested in this to go google it or search for it on Youtube, because I can't even begin to describe the hilarity that can be crafted with this game.

So, I'll try to post in this and keep this updated on video-games (sorry if I have somehow hijacked your thread, Corrupted,) and hopefully you people will care enough to listen.

Sorry for the double post and such, but ya I just figured out that the 360's price may be going down too and I was mad, but still proud I got it on the first day.

And there is still a shortage on Wiis and Nintendo has confirmed that a Wii shortage will continue throughout the '07 holiday season! A year we gave them to get up to speed with the current demand on the US game market and they still can't even keep up with that. I think it is just ridiculous that it takes them more than a year and the 360 and PS3 were in stock in less than 6 months and still selling great.

the wii wasnt a great stride in graphics or power but their controller was totally creative. I think its real hook is that people who aren't "gamers" even like it. I think sony is going to struggle for a change until the PS4 and they will learn their lesson and not be so ahead of the competition in pricing. Microsoft is about to hurt from all the service they have promised for the bugs in their hardware.

I think the wii rules until the next generation and then sony comes out swinging. I think they let their guard down.

No, they even confirmed there NOT being a shortage. Demand is insane for it, everytime I see a Wii on a shelf it is never there the next day. Compared to demand, supply is low, but there is not a shortage.

About the copied from Sony sprinter/marathon bit, I really think if developers would stop porting old games and work on new games which are NOT minigame compilations, Wii will remain successful through the entire generation. Although, I really think it is a good idea to get another system with the Wii, probably the Xbox360.

While it is obvious this price drop on the PS3 has given it some big success, I really doubt it will last as a gaming system. As a super cheap Blu-ray player it will most definately get tons of sales, though.

Nyko’s Wii Party Station

First, when you throw a look at the Wii accessory, you won’t find it more than a chip-holding tray, but as per Nyko, the station also comprises LCD scoreboards, Wii-mote holder, a drawer for Nunchuck, a fan, four freezing soda cup holders (with built-in gels to maintain coldness), and a chip holder.


The accessory that Nyko displayed is a prototype, but they have planned to get it real in next two or three months.

There is not a shortage I don't even live in a big city and I can't find a store with some geeks buying out all of the stuff.

Only game I might like if I go over to a friends house is Mario Galaxies.

Why would you trade a system in for a different cheaper system? I would personaly keep both. I decided I am not getting a Wii because they are Jappenese that may sound racist, but I just try to buy from American companies.

Gamersreports has reported that Capcom’s TPS/ survival horror Resident Evil 5 will be coming exclusively to the Xbox360 as it debuts sometime next year. The report surfaces as Microsoft’s Peter Moore announced that the title would be coming to the Xbox360 in 2008. Moreover, you will be able to download the full trailer of title on July 26th July from Xbox Live Marketplace.

This is no more than an exaggeration. If Microsoft exec didn’t name the PS3, it doesn’t mean that the game is coming exclusively for the Xbox360. As Moore is Microsoft exec, so why should he talk about PS3 version? He’s simply given a confirmation to the game release (2008) and trailer, which will be downloadable by the end of this month.

Capcom has firmly denied all such reports and said that the game has been developed as a multiplatform title, hence will be launched on both (PS3 & Xbox360) platforms. Therefore, it’s victory-hour for PS3 owners as they are no longer losing another precious title.

The game is likely to ship to the retailer stores in March ’08. This is the first time when a new sequel in the ‘Resident Evil series’ won’t come to a Nintendo platform.

Presently, very little is known about the title, hope Capcom would reveal some more details at E3.

FYI, there is not a single Mario Sports game yet THANK GOODNESS. Those are horrible, but Strikers was so awesome you can't classify it with the other Mario Sports.

And the Wii Party Station thing looks so stupid yet completely awesome at the same time. Maybe the awesome comes from the Sprite in the cup holders.

This is true, but those gamers already bought it. So thats why I think the wii rules this gen of games. Sony has the experience to crush everyone next round. Like I said, I just think they got a little to cocky this round and the Wii caught them off guard.


I am pretty exclusively a pc / wii gamer now. We have a 360 here collecting dust and I dont think I will ever go to PS3 at this point, unless the blu-ray hooks me in. I definitely would consider a PS4 when the time comes as long as they dont make it cost me a million dollars. I will choose to spend money on my pc every year over that cost so it has to be reasonable or I aint biting.

And about Strikers, I guess everyone has their preferences. I just really liked it, maybe because I hadn't tried other soccer games yet.
