Depends on what kind of games you're looking for. I have WordScapes on my phone and CodyCross on my tablet. I think Cody Cross needs periodic network connection to download new puzzles.

If you have Amazon Prime (and I think Netflix offers it too) you can download shows/movies to watch off line.

Word Twist is a lot of fun plus you get to learn new words. It's a take off on Boggle.
Of course there are the classic Solitaire games.
I don't use the apps since I'm adverse to loading up on them (power drawing and that icky privacy worrying I do) but they exist as do browser versions.

Thanks. I do have Prime but dont want to watch 12 plus hours of movies/tv. I'm looking for alternative entertainment.

I have Word Link, Word Stacks, crosswords, Ticket to Ride, Yatzy, fill it ins, and several types of solitaire

Word Stacks

I was going to suggest that one too! I know it works off off-line because I've played it on Airplane Mode to avoid ads, and I like it a lot.

I also have Word Bubbles and one called Wood Puzzle (I think?) - It's a bit like Tetris pieces, but they don't fall. (You get three at a time along the bottom of the screen, and have to fit them into the frame.)

** I've only played these next ones in an iPad, so I'm not sure if they'd be too tiny on a phone, but maybe worth a shot? -

Presidents vs. Aliens is a lot of fun! And I love Stack the States as well. (I play it with my niece and nephew, but I actually enjoy it as much as they do!) There's also a Stack the Countries version that's more advanced.

Wait a second - you can avoid ads in Word Stacks? I'm gonna try that. Love the game, can't stand the ads.

Yes, I play it offline too.....unless I want to be in a tournament or want to watch ads to get more points

The original Plants vs. zombies is my absolute favorite mobile game. I used to play the console version with my son when he was a kid, so there is a nostalgia factor for me. But it's easy to learn the strategy, the levels get progressively harder but not too hard to beat. You don't need to put money into it to beat the game, over the years I've played the whole thing through 4 times, earning and unlocking absolutely everything and filling my zen garden each time, without spending any money. There's lots of extras to earn (plants to unlock in gameplay, plants for your zen garden, extra bonus games), and again, you can easily earn them without pumping real money into the game.

I also play peggle, tetris, pixel art, sudoku, wordscapes, farm heroes, and frozen free fall. I have mario kart on my phone but I've never played it because you have to link your nintendo account and the couple times that I've tried I get an error message.

Word games: 7 Little Words, Red Herring, Monkey Wrench, Little Tiny Crosswords- all of these games have daily free puzzles and puzzles packs for purchase, the purchased puzzles are playable in airplane mode. Woven Words and Subwords are playable in airplane mode.
Monument Valley and Monument Valley 2 are beautiful interactive puzzle games with Escheresque artwork, both playable on airplane mode. I would recommend these be played on a tablet just because you can see the details so much clearer.

Some of my favorites;
Hill Climb 2
Stickman Golf
Alto's Advernture
Ticket to Ride

Also, how about podcasts?
Disney related;
Welcome Home Podcast
My DVC Points

Comedy;
Doug Loves Movies
How Did This Get Made? - this one has the added bonus of being a comedy podcast about really bad movies - lots are on Amazon Prime. The movie plus the podcast is about 3 hours entertainment. The movies are usually pretty bad but worth watching in advance of the podcast.

Trivia;
Trivia Warfare Army
Complete the List
Triviality
Good Job Brain - they stopped doing this podcast years ago but it's really my favorite.

If you are a fan of Adam Ruins Everything (and why woudn't you be?), His podcast Factually is an extension of that - VERY good!

I've played 2048 and Combine for years- always looking to beat my high score. So they've had staying power for me. Combine had a recent obnoxious update in which loud ads suddenly come on in the middle of a game though.

Also 1010!, YatzyAddict, and Wordscapes. Blendoku was fun until I got through it all. I do Soduku on the iPad but haven't tried it on the smaller phone interface.

Sometimes I go big on Trivia Crack, and then I'll quit playing for months at a time.

Disney Emoji Blitz is fun. The downside is that you only get 5 lives at a time and you have to wait (or pay for) new ones.
