My DD who will turn eight in a few weeks wants a Game Boy. I don't know which to buy her. Any opinions? The Mirco looks so tiny, I'm wondering if this will be too small for her? But, I would like it to have a head jack and if I'm reading right the SP doesn't have one.

Both her and her sister already have a Leapster and that thing is messed up all the time. I really love it, but they are both on their second one! Hope these Game Boys aren't the same way? The Leapsters are always freezing up.

Thanks!

I agree that the Micro seems too small. My son has a GBA SP but I don't even think that Nintendo is making SPs anymore since the Nintendo DS came out. If I were buying a new Nintendo hand held for my son, it would be the DS. All of the GBA SP games will play on the DS but not the other way around. My son would really like Nintendogs, but it's only available for the NDS not for the SP

Edited to add the Nintendo DS link:

I'd definately go with the Nintendo DS.

Animal Crossing :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

My son, 10, got the micro for his bday in Oct. It is SO small. I am paranoid about it getting lost. Stick with something bigger.

Go for the DS. My daughter (12) loves hers. All she has is two nintendog games.

Figment - there is a dog game for Advance but it looks more like a cartoon than nintendogs. You might want to check it out though.

My daughters (8 and 6) got Micros for Christmas and they love them. We had NO gameboy/handheld game experience prior to this, so I don't know how helpful our input is! They seem to really be enjoying them, and keeping up w/ them just fine - they do come w/ a little black carrying bag.

The micro is too small. The DS is great, but if you are not looking to spend that much, the SP is an excellent choice. It's not that the SP doesn't have a headset jack, it's that it requires special headphones, or an adapter. These can usually be bought anywhere they sell the accessories.

I got a DS for Christmas last year, and I love it. I had the Gameboy Color, the first Gameboy Advance, and now this. I love it. My neighbor got one for her 9th birthday, and now almost everyone on my street has one. It plays DS games as well as Gameboy Advance games. It is durable. I dropped it on the cement once, a couple of scratches, and that's it. It has a touch screen with a stylus and the touch screen gets dirty very easily. Just make sure she knows that it is something to take care of and be sure she will be able to take care of it. I love it and have no complaints!

Nintendo DS.

They've even come out with a Tamagotchi game....yooo hooo for my DD11!

My kids have Sony PSP's and they love them. I know you didn't ask about that, but that's just another new system to consider. It even holds music like an MP3 player and does all kinds of other things.

I just wanted to let you know that I was in my local Target today and they have a Nintendo DS special for $129.99 that includes one of three DS games in the package. GBA SP was selling for $79.99 as a stand alone.

DD has the gameboy advance that she got for Christmas. She loves it and the small size isnt a problem.

ANother BIG vote the Nintendo DS (which you probaby know by the it's the new and improved Gameboy). It's AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME.

She'll probably love the dog and the Mario games. Very strong and very durablle -- should last for a very long time.

If you can hold off I bet the DS will come down in price..

These 3 games alone make it worth getting because they ARE NOT available on the SP...I know because my girls love 2 of the 3 games on game cube and i'm sure they'd like nintendogs...

Another vote for DS . :thumbsup2 I got one for Christmas , and I LOVE it . I think the Micro was like a hundred bucks, so I'd just go ahead and spend the extra 20 dollars and get the DS. :goodvibes My fave game right now is Mario Kart, and my dh got me a Spongebob game to play too. I REALLY liked Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, UNTIL I got to a certian level , and I couldn't defeat the level boss. I wish Nintendo had a Rent-a-13Yearold so they could get me past that one level. lol :rotfl:

I have a DS and have had no problems with the games freezing up. But, with any piece of electronics, you have to consider how hard/rough the kids are going to be with it. I haven't dropped mine, I don't take it with me when it rains, I don't pound on the touch screen, etc. Because the DS folds in two, the screens will be protected a bit more in comparison to the PSP.

Also, you might be able to find used Gameboys at your Gamespot or EB Games that would be a little cheaper.

We just bought DD a Nintendo DS for her 9th b-day coming up in a few weeks. She has the SP and loves it but her best friend has the DS and she has been begging and pleading for one for her birthday so that she can play Nintendogs with her friend :) I told her no way was I buying her a new DS because she just got the SP for her birthday last year but we are going to surprise her with it - and boy will she be surprised! Her little brother (6) will get her SP. I would splurge and get the DS if you don't mind spending a little extra.

We did the Target deal and got Mario and Luigi - Partners in Time as our free game. The other game choices with this offer were MarioWare and a Kirby game (can't remember the exact title). That's the best deal I have seen and I've been looking awhile.

Good luck!
