Hi my fellow DISers.

My DS's birthday is fast approaching, and Nana and Gramps have decided that he 'needs' a GameBoy Advance. While I have no objections, I could think of other stuff for him, but I digress. :D

So, DH and I thought we should get him a game or two so he will have something to play. Any suggestions? He is turning 6 and has not had a ton of exposure to video games.

Thanks!!!!!!

Debbie

There are many great games out there, lots of disney titles. I was concerned about some being to hard for my ds(6) but he's had no trouble figuring them out. Some of his fav's are Lilo and Stitch, Monsters Inc Mickeys racing and all his pokemon games as well.

You may want to consider the Gameboy Advance SP edition. It's the latest version, has a flip up screen with built in light(easier on their eyes--GB Advance was sometimes hard to see) and it has a rechargeable battery similar to a cell phone. The price difference isn't great, and you'll easily make that up by not buying batteries.

Also for games, regular gameboy games will also work. You can often pick those games up used for cheap.

We try to limit the use of the GB for when we are out shopping or travelling etc. that way its a treat; otherwise he'd play 24/7 if we let him.

I would go for the new game boy also. Having the flip screen is great for protection. We have one of the Mickey Mouse games and its very easy to play. Also the Mario games are a lot of fun. If you have any used game places around try those.

I just wanted to agree with tmli get the Game Boy Advance SP. I am an adult but I LOVE my Game Boy (I'm hooked on Disney Tetris which is a Game Boy Color game that you can sometimes pick up used but I don't see new anymore - it's great!) Anyway, the Game Boy Advance SP is leaps ahead of the Game Boy Advance - is smaller and the rechargable battery is a huge plus. It runs about $99.00 at TRU or Best Buy. The built in light of Game Boy Advance SP is great as you will have to purchase a light to attach to the Game Boy Advance to be able to see it unless you are in direct light. There are many Disney titles available that are really cool and that I am sure children would love. I noticed a new Finding Nemo game that looks really cool.

Don't shoot for picking a non-Disney title! But both DD and DS enjoy Stuart Little II.

Two Disney ones are also favorites - Lilo & Stitch and Tarzan.

Go with the Gameboy Advance SP, otherwise you have to buy the light for the regular gameboy advance, etc. And the battery is rechargable, which is great.

My ds is 7 and likes to play Kirby, Sonic and Mario. :)

DS 8 just got a new Gameboy Advance SP for his birthday this past weekend. I couldn't believe how much better it is than the regular GB Advance! DH is playing it as I type. LOL! The backlit screen and rechargable batteries are awesome, plus I love the flip up screen. It's much more portable than the GBA, but the screen is just as big. It will easily fit in a pocket or my purse without the need for the external light. I personally would not even consider buying a regular Gameboy Advance now that the SP is out. We got DS's at Sam's and it came with a Super Mario game and game guide for $127.00.

I just bought my DS a Game Boy Advance SP for his birthday (he will be 7). The games that he likes are Super Mario, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Kirby and Frogger.

Thanks for the GREAT advice everyone!!!!! I will pass it all along to the gift giving Grandparents. And now I have a good list of games to look for.

I just bought this same bundle pack at Sam's Club for DS's upcoming 10th birthday. Good deal. I got the pack with the Super Mario game but they also had a pack with Legend of Zelda.
I had been trying to get him a GBA SP at WalMart for weeks but they've been out whenever I went. Thank you Sam's Club!
