galapagos boat cabin size

Just a little concerned on the size of the cabin on the boat with three of us in a small space ... are they as small as they look in the photos?
I asked disney about paying for a bigger cabin if it wasn't a crazy price and they passed me on to the company who have given me a number for equador ... that doesn't connect ho hum!! so now wandering if its worth the effort.

Never seen any comments on the size of cabins..... any advice should I pursue an upgrade or is it not worth it.

I think your 3rd is a 9 YO? My understanding about this trip is that we won't be spending too much time in the cabin anyway! It wont be as roomy as a hotel room obviously, but 2 adults and a kid should work fine for the few times you'll be in it!

I haven't been on GE2 yet, but on my previous ABD, I noticed they do make an effort to make sure the rooms are commodious for families. Of course on a cruise ship there are limits, but some of the triples and quads I looked at looked bigger than some of the mass market cruise cabins we've had. IMO, I wouldn't fret over it, or pay extra...I think going to a suite would be a significant expense for as little time you will have in it.

Ok just for fun I did some research...we took our 2 kids, then 8 and 10, to Alaska on Coral Princess. Our cabin was 217 Sq. feet, and had plenty of room for 4 of us, we had a great trip and didn't really feel crowded and had a few sea days when we were all in the cabin in Glacier Bay.

The GE 2 cabins on the lowest deck (smallest ones and we may be in better ones???) are 210 SQ feet -240 SQ feet. And we don't have any "sea days" ; will spend every morning and afternoon on shore excursions (maybe a nap after lunch for some of us)

SO in an effort to reassure you, I think it will fine for 3. These cabins are bigger than any of the other cruises we've taken recently. Of course your mileage may vary...maybe bigger folks may not feel as comfortable as we did?

Looking at deck plans, it would not surprise me if ABD books out the Columbus deck and maybe a few of the same cat of cabins above it. I would imagine they would need to have a similar cabin category offered to each family in the ABD (after all everyone has paid about the same, you can't give a majestic suite to one family and have another on the Magellen next to the dining room! ) Anyone who has been want to comment? DO you remember where you cabin was?

We went in August '09.
I am nearly certain everyone on our tour was in a room on the Columbus deck. there were 20 people total across 8 cabins and 5 of those were 3 people in each. I don't remember anyone commenting one way or the other about the space or lack of.

It DS11 and I, and we had plenty of room (beds were split when we got in the room), decent closest and desk space to spread out. there was a sofa bed, but we did not use it, other than to pile stuff on.

We did not spend a lot of time in the room..other than sleeping and getting ready for the next excursion or meal.

We were on this trip last year. There were only two of us, but we remarked at how much larger the cabins were than other cruise lines that we had been on. I don't feel that a third would have been overly cramped. However, there was a couple who decided to upgrade their cabin (their kids shared a cabin that was normally assigned) and really felt like their room was spacious.

Ding ding ding...give the gal a prize...I thought just looking at it and thinking how ABD likes to do things that Columbus was most likely! Thank you for weighing in an confirming that! We are doing double occupancy for 6 of us. so we will need 3 cabins just for our group!

The room is spacious enough for us. We were booked at a room not far from the restaurant (Magellan deck, I believed) and we were suprised how spacious it was, since we had the idea that the cabin is most likely small since it was on deck 2. They also have a huge walk in closet and a sizeable open area in the middle to do stuff. It was quite nice actually.

Thank you so much for the link - it was a much better view of the rooms than the one I had found. I have done a little more homework too now..... for an updrade of 1250USD per person you can have the top grade of suite but on this boat it is just 37 square feet of difference - which is not enough to warrent that kind of expenditure. We treat ourselves on a cruise and have a very large suite.....embarrassed to say over 650 sq ft... so this is going to be different and squashed but as much as I like space even I cannot justify the extra $3750 for 37 sq ft of space!! and as everyone says for such a few nights and so little time... so classic suite it is and snuggling up will be fun!
