My rates for my flight have gone down $30 each way. I called for a credit and the man told me i would have to cancel my ressies and rebook and hope that there would still be seats available. Is this true or did i get someone not familiar with getting a credit for future travel. My flight on the way to MCO is booked, so i don't think they will credit that, but coming home they are not booked. Can ANyone familiar with the procedure help me? THank you.

what are your dates...??

are you flying from buffalo, they now have two NON stops after september 15th

you can change the one you already have booked by going to the travel center and choosing "change air reservation"

you then have to put in your current confirmation number and name of the credit card holder on whose card the reservation was booked

when you click on "retrieve flight information" you will then have to click on the current flight you have booked as being the one you want to change and and then click on "change selected trips"

you will be then taken to a page which is similar to the original page you used to make your reservation

you put in your date ( same as you have now ), youre departure and arrival cities which will be the same also

click on "Go to next step--select new flight"

thenyou can actually see what is available before you have to make a decision about your change. ( if the same flight is available at a cheaper rate you can book it ) on this page you will see "go to next step -- new price" , which will probably price out the new flight at 30$ less and tell you there is ticketless refund being set aside for you ( have not gone this far yet since we have not changed any flights yet, so am just guessing that is what will occur )

...this way you keep your original confirmation number and you see what is there before you make the choice so the "premise about hoping the rate will be there" ( suggested by the agent you talked to ) would be mute....the difference is given to you as a ticketless credit good for future travel

others have posted here that they have been able to get "credit card" refunds for the difference by calling a SWA number in dallas

but, in your case, since you do not seem to have booked your return flight ( the good rate is only good for flights until september 30 ) you coulld book that using the "ticketless funds" you get if and when you can change your first leg of the trip

hope this helps....

Are seats available for that flight at lower fare? If so then--

If made on-line go to southwest.com - go to travel center - change reservation - type in confirmation number and credit card name - click on flight or flights to be changed (it will be same flight, but new cataegory of fare) - be careful that you keep same flght number and date. You will end up with a credit applied to that confirmation number. Do it for all confirmation numbers and like me, you could save $100.

Went through the process and the reservation system is temporarily unavailable. Darn. One more ?, does the confirmation remain the same? TYIA

Yes, doing it this way keeps the same confirmation.

Thanks guys tried again this morning and system is still saying unavailable, by time i am able to do it it will be sold out for my flight home. I'v e already had it booked since March for $79, but if i can get a voucher for $30 that would be great for 4 of us that is $120. I had to cancel a ressie for another one going with us becuase he is unable to go now due to a new job.

the credit will not be a voucher.....it will be in the form of "ticketless funds" connected to your original "confirmation #"

if you are "lucky" like some others on the board, you may be able to get a refund to your credit card

what are your dates???

if they are after sept 15, buffalo to orlandoand vice versa will have two non stops a day to choose from

as far as flights being gone or sold out

.....if the system is down, it will be down for everyone, not just you

I have been trying to do the same thing - my flights are $80 cheaper in total

when i attempt to change the air reservations, i am getting an error message, saying that the flight i chose were the same.

am i going to have to cancel and rebook?

EDITED: I did cancel and rebook - 2 browser windows and i canceled and booked right after one another

must be a glitch in the system now, since someone posted that they were able to use the "change air" the other day and had no problems according to them

it was posted that they were doing doing a system update overnight one day this week, so maybe it introduced this new anomaly

Make sure the flights you want are still available at the lower price, then cancel your present reservation and rebook. Your reservation confirmation will change. Keep track of your credits, ie: the old confirmations. You will need them for future travel.

i tried for twelve hours after reading it here, before finally calling swa and they told me that in order to get the lower fare you have two choices... cancel and rebook or select a DIFFERENT flight! staying on the same flight for less money is not a "change" and cannot be done... you will continue to get that "temporarily unavailable" screen... sad, but true!

thanks for clearing that up gigi....

perhaps the person who posted they were able to do it, had other parameters that allowed them to "change" without getting the temporary unavailable

when we try to book reservations under our rapid rewards account, we are never able to complete it ...since once we are logged on and try to make a reservation it comes back with a screen that says " session unavailable " and then something about user still being logged in... that was one reason it was thought there may be a glicth in the system

As i said I did it and also did what SW CS told me and did get lower fare on same flight.

go to travel center - change reservation

Very strange - but you got the lower fare anyway so good for you.

Did you put in credit card holder info exactly as it appears on CC? add or removing middle initial might do it. (might not)
