You know, I will never understand people.

I am an artist. I make everything from banners to wallpaper to icons. And I love making art for people. Thats why I do it. But thats not what this is about.

If one more person asks me if they can sell my art, I'm going to have to hurt someone.

You can not sell my art. You can't. Its not legal its not right. You can't do it.

I'm the artist and people can't seem to get that through their head.

I've been driven to writing up terms of use and putting it in my art sections on websites.

Theres no real point to this. I just needed to rant.

That's really annoying.
Art is one of those things you have to keep a sharp eye out for on the internet.
I would only ever let someone sell my art if they gave me credit for it, and no matter what it defeats the point just because you won't get any profits.
And people will most likely take your work and say it is their own. I know tons of people who have to put up with this.
If you ever see your work on Livejournal or anything and see someone claiming your work as their own; report it.

If someone sells it, I want the profit. and they just don't seem to understand it. I have a hidden signature in all of my art. I've also stated and linked all of my rights as the artist. if someone steals, I could sue them. Its sad, becasue a lot of artists don't understand their rights.

that's true.
you should always know your rights, and i think that's a good idea signature on your art.
a lot of the time though, signatures are best somewhere near the middle of the picture, so people don't just cut the signature out.

are you talking about people stealing them over the internet? babe, if you put them on the internet, and someone likes it, they can and will steal it. thats just a risk people have to take by putting their stuff up. from art to icons, even writing, people will steal it and stick their name on it. i write, and stick my things on deviant art, and ive seen some of my friends writings stolen and reposted somewhere else. its horrible and its not right, because you could even sit there and argue that "its mine, i can snapshot the file of it on my computer" until youre blue in the face and you can never win.

but if people want to sell your art for you, and you recieve the profit, that actually doesnt sound so bad. but only if you recieve the credit you deserve.

I won't ever put any of my serious writings on the internet. Because the internet is such a vast community -- of good and bad -- I won't risk it. People will find ways around things to steal an original piece of work. It doesn't matter how you try and avoid it...it won't stop and that is unfortunate. Not everyone has respect for others...it's a cold harsh fact and the best thing to do it understand that and try our best to deal with it in a calm matter.

I would hate to submit something online and then later see it on a different site with another name attached to it. Such a sick feeling that would be. I agree with how you feel, Sparx.

No people aren't stealing it. They're asking me for permission to sell it.

If you find it...

SUE THEM!

:rotfl2: JK JK :rotfl:

It's a way to get rich fast tho, right? :smokin:

you do know that if someone sends u the profit you are just as liable 2 be sued regardless of age

I don't really want to sell it, I'd rather just give it away. Its so complicated to sell it. Its much easier to just say "you can't sell it, but you can give it away". I also seem to have a problem with people wanting to use my stuff in contests. :confused3

That's also why I let nobody use my computer I type reports and photoshop with.
