GAD Upgrade - Details Question

I will be flying into California on July 31 and I plan on starting up in the parks the next day, 8/1. I will be taking GAD vouchers and upgrading to multi-day parkhoppers. Since I will get in early evening on July 31, I was planning on going down to Downtown Disney, my fiancee and I have never really spent much time and figured it would be fun to check out.

My question is, can we redeem our GAD vouchers that night and upgrade them immediately to our parkhoppers without missing a day? I know GAD vouchers have to be redeemed and used the same day, but if we upgrade to a parkhopper, will they start the day that we enter the park first (i.e. the next day)?

Thanks, any help would be great!

We are doing the same exact thing in October, so hopefully the answer is "Yes". I hope someone that has done this can confirm.

I don't think so.

My understanding is that even if you upgrade to a multi-day pass, your first day of admission must be the day you turn in your GAD voucher.

But I have no first hand experience. I will be turning in my GAD voucher in August.

From Disney.com FAQ regarding GAD vouchers:

"Is there an expiration date for my free theme park ticket?

Yes. December 15, 2010 is the last day that you may redeem your voucher for your free ticket. Once your voucher is redeemed for one day admission to an applicable Disney Park, your ticket will be valid only on the day of redemption.

Once I redeem my voucher for a theme park ticket, do I have to use the ticket that same day?

Yes, once you redeem your voucher for a 1-day, 1-theme park ticket, the ticket must be used by you that same day."

So, your 1 Day free ticket has to be used that day. When you upgrade it to a multi-day, the first-date-used would be the start date of your PH. This would be the day you redeemed your voucher, the 31st in the above scenario.

It does not take much time to take care of the tickets on the day of. I would just enjoy DtD on the 31st and deal with your tickets on the 1st.

P.S. If anyone has 1st-hand experience that was different from the "rules," please feel welcome to share, of course.

That makes sense to me. You aren't just trading up so much and getting an unused ticket, you are getting a free day and then upgrading during that free day (even though its done right away). Thanks for the help, I was just hoping to find a way to sleep in a little more and still make it for when the park opens.

Thanks for the help, saved me the risk of getting the ticket and losing a day
