GAD black out dates and upgrade question

Hi there, I have a GAD voucher and I will use it on March 28th. I want to upgrade it to a 10 day pass for the rest of my stay but March 29th-April 8th are blacked out as GAD dates. Is the black out dates only for the GAD voucher or will it also mean that I can not use it for an upgrade ticket during that time as well?

Thanks so much!

Once you upgrade it, the ticket you have is a standard MYW ticket, so you can use it any time. You MAY need to make sure you upgrade it the same day you get it, and not wait until the next day...

Only the GAD voucher is affected by the blockout dates. You cannot redeem it during those times.

If I still need to buy tickets and am thinking of a 6-day hopper...will they deduct $79 from each adult ticket and $68 from each child's ticket?

Each GAD voucher is good for ONE ticket, and only for the person in whose name the voucher is listed. If you each have a GAD voucher, then yes, that is the basic result. You still have to get the 1-day pass from the voucher and enter the park before you can do the upgrade though.

Then if I am needing a 6-day hopper pass, the upgrade charge would be $283 - $79 = $204, and a child's would be $250 - $68 = $182 per ticket? I would take my family's vouchers to the parks our first day and take care of all of this there? This cannot be done at WDW resorts or DTD, correct?

Sorry, just looking for clarification as this is so confusing to me!

You've got it, plus tax of 6.5% (on the amount you pay, not the original amount of the target ticket).

You HAVE to turn in the GAD vouchers at the designated will call window outside the parks (or TTC). The resorts and DTD cannot do anything about the GAD vouchers.

The one odd thing is that you need to turn them in for the 1-day ticket, and then enter the park - you cannot upgrade them right away. Once you are in the park or anytime afterwards (the next day if you want, up to 14 days later), you can upgrade them.

Thanks so much doconeill! Volunteering tomorrow. Appreciate your help!

How can I find the Black out dates? My AP needs renewal in December, and I think I can use the voucher toward the price. I get to WDW on December 10th. Will I be able to use the voucher then?

Thanks.

From the Disney GAD FAQ page...

When is my free Disney theme park ticket valid for use? Are there any dates I can't use my ticket?

Your voucher for a free ticket to enter one of the Disney Theme Parks may be redeemed through December 15, 2010, and must be redeemed and used on the same day. Please note, however, that on the following days, you will not be allowed to redeem your voucher for a free ticket:

* Walt Disney World® Resort: March 29 - April 8 and July 4, 2010
* The Disneyland® Resort: February 13-14, March 21, June 21-22, July 4, November 21, December 11-12, 2010.

To perform the upgrade, do you return to the call window or somewhere else?

Thanks for letting me jump in with my question based on your question and answer.

Just a reminder that every person that has a voucher needs to be present and have proper ID per Disney's requirments to redeem it (i.e., one person can't do it for your entire party)
