I have 2 boys 6 and 8. My 8 year old has mild autism but has ADHD. He tends to get impatient in long lines and would talk to anyone. (he is so friendly). I didn't get one the last time we were there (2006). Does anyone recommend us getting one? Where do we get them? Do I need a doctors note? We are traveling 8/30 - 9/6. I don't know how crowded it will be then. School starts that week. Any suggestions would be great!

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. Post #6 deals with the GAC.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

However, you have to realize that the GAC is not intended to allow people to skip waiting. I guess the question is what you would need the card for or what would you be looking to accomplish. The GAC is based on the needs of the person. Personally I don't think that people waiting in lines would have any problems in holding a conversation with an 8yo near them, especially if the parent(s) are there.

Hey that is the same dates we are going - We will get a GAC for my mom and son - mom has an ECV so we usually don't have issues there.. son is SID and ADHD and tends to have big melt downs and sometime attitude conficts if things are not just right for him..

Here is my question to the Boards.. I always get my GAC from the MK. but My first day there we plan to be at EPCOT.. where do you go in EPCOT to get it... never went in there to get one.

Thanks.

You can get a gac at guest relations in any of the parks. I used one last trip. It was nice to have an alternate entarance and have a place to wait that wasn't crowded. I have issues with crowds.

Get one and if you need it you have it - if you don't them be thankful that all is going well and enjoy the trip!! That is what we do!!

You do not need a doctors note but can take one along if it makes yo umore comfortable. When you tell the CM you DS has autism they will pretty much know what you need from our experience.

You only need one for your entire trip! It is good for any of the parks!

Sorry should of been more clear.. never been to Guest Services at EPCOT never had a reson.. so.... where would that be in the park???:thumbsup2

All kids get impatient in lines, so you need to explain to Disney what you need for your child. And the fact that he talks to other peole in lines does not sound like that much of an issue?

We keep my son in wheelchair in the parks and on lines. It helps alot, because it prevents him wandering off, and from touching people. He also tires easily, esp in the summer heat, so it is a win-win.

FASTPASS is our friend, too, it prevents so much waiting in lines.

Guest Services at Epcot (and all the theme parks) has an office before and after you go thru the turnstiles. I'm thinking at Epcot it is on the right, DHS is on the left, as is AK. We plan to get our GAC the day we arrive because we aren't going to a park, and will have time. That way, we don't use a day off the park pass, and we don't stand in line in the morning.

Here's a link to the map to Epcot:

The Guest Relations outside of Epcot is to the right, at the 'i' right above where it says "Resort Bus Facility" on the map. The one inside Epcot is to the left of Spaceship Earth, marked by the 'i' at the left of the middle of the globe.

Epcot Guest Relations is also on the left side of the park, next to Spaceship Earth!
