Both my 4 yo ds and my 11 yo dd have some problems that might require assistance, do I need 2 cards?

DS has aspergers, sensory issues- he is both a seeker and avoider, and still has leg pain from a previous injury and I know he will need to use the strollers in line while he waits. He doesnt wait well and may need a quiet place to wait (wont know till I am there) What else would be especially helpful to ask for?

DD may need a wheelchair, I fully intend to have the option available at all times for her. She may need it for lines and may need a place out of the sun to wait for rides. Do I need to present a doctors note to get her a chair?

Thanks

In theory one GAC would work for your whole family (of up to five people plus the one it is issued for), but I would get one for each of them since they both have different needs and you might split up your group to do different things and then each has his/her own GAC to use for lines.

In regards to the GAC card, you do not need a doctor's note to get one, but the person it's for does need to be present. I do not know if you need a note for a wheelchair rental because that is not something we have ever needed. Using the stroller as a wheelchair should be mentioned as part of your GAC card needs.

Let me know if you have any other questions, & have a wonderful trip!!

Hi and :welcome: to disABILITIES!

If you click on where it says "disABILTIES" at the top of this page it will take you to the Index. One of the top items is the "disABILTIES FAQ" which will gives lots of useful information. I would suggest starting with Post #6, which deals with the Guest Assistance Card. Then browse through for other items which might be of use to you.

Or, if you want an easier route, click on the link in my signature.

I don't know if you read the information about GACs in the disABILITIES FAQs thread and still have questions, but if you didn't read it, I'd suggest also reading that. you don't have to ask for specific things - explain your children's needs and the CM in Guest Relations will stamp the GAC card with appropriate accomodations for their needs. If things don't work, just go back to Guest Relations and re-explain the needs and what needs are not being met by the stamps you have on the GAC.

I agree with blonde alligator about the GAC - in case you split up, it might be better to have 2 GACs. But, your DD can bring the wheelchair into lines without having a GAC and most of the lines are shaded, so a shaded space to wait noted on the GAC is often not needed that much.

You don't need a doctor's letter to rent a wheelchair. Because the WDW park rental wheelchairs are adult sized, if your 11 yr old is small, she may be more comfortable in an outside rental wheelchair. There are companies listed in the disABILITIES FAQs thread that you can contact to see if they would have something that would suit her needs.

EDITED TO ADD: Looks like Cheshire Figment and I were typing at the same time! :)

I have read through the entire thread. I will get 2 cards. dd doesnt want to use the chair at all and probably will only need it later in the day so we decided to wait and get one there. Thanks for answering my questions.
