GAC and Characters

I know I've seen this before but can't find it now - how does the GAC work when waiting to see the characters? Thanks!!

WDW CMs have posted that GACs are not used during the character greetings where the character just shows up and a line forms outside (except for children on Wish trips with those types of GACs).

For the character greetings where that is the attraction in the building (like in Toontown), show the GAC to the CM at the entrance. They may have a quieter, more private place you can wait. It may not be a shorter wait, but could be out of the regular line.
For MGM, there is a place where you can meet Mickey for pictures. We did not show DD's GAC or ask for any special treatment, but the the CM pulled us out of line to have DD and one other member of our party wait in a roped off part of the line, away from the other guests. The rest of our party was to wait in the line and have us join them when they got to the front. That did not go over well with DD - she either wanted everyone with her or to wait in the line with everyone. So, we got back into the line.

As a rule, I think the answer is no (except for MAW). I have had the occasional CM "scold" me for waiting in line without showing them the GAC, and a few pull us out and move us to another area to wait.

For the most part the answer is no. There will be the occassional CM who will let you up to the front.

The GAC's are good for attractions and the character's aren't considered attractions by WDW. However, you could argue that the diability guide lists Ariel and Mickey Mouse in Toon Town as attractions but your answer will still be no.

I am VERY new to this board--mainly because I am helping my cousing plan for their MAKE A WISH tripin late August.

THere is soooo much helpful information in here!! Man!! It's hard to read and take it all in.

From what I have read in this post: Is there a special GAC that they need to ask for OR does it come with their package?

When they go to their orientation meeting, they will get what they need.

The "regular" GACs are not generally meant to shorten or eliminate waits in line. The GACs given to kids on MAW trips are different and are meant to allow the child to go on any attraction with a very minimal wait (like front of the line).

We didn't use GAC to get in a different line or private place, but when DS met Genie, he was a little overwhelmed by the size (plus it was hot, bright sun, etc) he still wanted to be next to him, but then Genie put his elbow on DS's head For a neurotypical kid, this was probably a cute pose. Anyway, I just sort of flashed the GAC to the CM w/ Genie w/o saying anything and she discreetly resolved the situation. Doesn't completely apply to OP ?, but wanted to illustrate one way that GAC can come in handy even in a subtle way with character meetings. Not sure if all CM's would be as tuned in as this one, I hope so

We use our GAC at Mickeys place in toontown fair and also at the other character greets in that same building. We were escorted to an alternate entrance. This was not an exception but regular protocol in these locations.

On a note about this, I also have found that the GAC cards generally allow you to use the wheelchair viewing areas at Parades and Shows in the aprks as well, even when they aren't listed as attractions. For the Carachters, here in Cali it basically works anywhere that there are set meet and greet areas, but random character meetings it's up to the character who is next, generally when they see someone that obviously has special needs they pick them first (sometimes at the propmting of the greeter that has been shown a GAC) but it is up to the chracter in the end.
