I just got some travel size (one load) powdered Tide laundry detergent in the travel section at Safeway. It was 59 cents. They had travel size Bounce dryer sheets as well.

We went to Taget before our trip and found Tide (which I can refill the bottle for next trip) and drier sheets for .99. ;) lots of very cooltravel items at target...
6 more days until PORFQ!!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

At the "Everything $1 or Less" Store they have SunLight fresh and gentle 10 load box for $1. Not what I usually buy but well worth it for vacation and easy packing on a plane.

We had seen these at our hometown Target, but were afraid of packing liquid detergent in our suitcases. We made a stop at a SuperTarget on our way from the airport and picked up some of these. We also picked up fresh and frozen food and some heavy items (we were at OKW, so had a kitchen).
Hurray for SuperTarget!

I'm never quite sure why people go searching for the travel sizes or single use sizes of stuff. They aren't a good deal as far as unit pricing is concerned. We just take small containers (like from butter) and pack those with whatever we need. Then we use the stuff while we're away and, if space is tight, toss the container in the trash. And you certainly don't need travel size dryer sheets. Just put a few sheets from your regular box in a plastic bag and you're all set. As for shampoo or other liquids, I got a few empty medicine bottles from my pharmacist and we use those. We just refill them before each trip.

We tossed some dryer sheets into a ziplock bag before we left home, but didn't want to buy a large container of laundry soap (or bring one with us).

I have bought some of the small contaniers of shampoo and then re-filled them when they were empty. Some of the other small travel size containers (like lotion) are nice for tossing in a purse or backpack.

With a family of 4 we just pack regular sized shampoo and conditioner. Since I do the packing I get to pick the shampoo scent and brand. ;)

As for liquid laundry soap you could use an empty shampoo bottle. To eliminate needing the dryer sheets simply watch for sales/coupons for Tide's detergent that includes Downy.

I like the individual sample packets for travel becasue they're less likely to open in my suitcase and spill their contents on everything. But, I refuse to pay the higher cost for them in the sample or travel section of the store. So, I take advantage of every free sample offer there is online. I have several packets of Tide and Downey as well as shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste. I signed up for P&G BrandSavers emails on their website and I get a monthly newsletter that almost always has some free sample of a new P&G product. Here's a webpage with their current offers:
http://www.pgbrandsaver.com/cgi-bin/offertool.cgi

I just do samples, too.
I request them a month or so before we are planning on going.

I google "free samples" and there are SOO many "freebies" listed all over the place.

We got packets of Cascade, Tide Cold Water, Downy Fabric Softener, etc.
They're all free and I know I"ll only need to wash once while we're down there, so no big whoop :)

I got those same travel size powder Tide at Safeway. But I used the $.50/1 coupon that was in last weeks coupon inserts and my Safeway doubled it to make the Tide free (or make $.25 on it, depending on the cashier). I do the same with the shampoos, use the coupons that say good on ANY (no size restriction) and its usually free or better.

Haven't found anything better than getting paid to take away laundry detergent yet...lol! And having it in a small sealed box is better than putting it in a tub and worrying about it spilling.

We just go to our local "laundry mat" (aka public laundry facil.) and they usually have a vending machine there. We paid a quater for single load boxed detergents and had tons of brands to chose from! They traveled great, and didnt have any problems w/baggage being check because they were clearly labled and sealed. :teeth:

Big Lots had one load Tide squirt bottles for .49 and the had 3 - 4 load bottles of Purex for 1.00.

I use powder so i just put enough for a load in a ziplock sandwich bag, then put the bags into a gallon size ziplock with my dryer sheets and I'm good to go. ;)

I do free samples, too, or else I will wrap stuff up like kaddjr does.

On that note I also take powdered milk with us on our trips, especially to Hawaii where milk is about $6 - 7 a gallon. :faint: Cereal, fruit and protein bars, and stuff like that - I label the bags.

I agree! I did buy travel size bottles of my fav shampoo/conditioner/hairspray but they were really sturdy bottles so I just refill them when they run low. I bought them two years ago and are still in good shape, so they were more than worth it. I keep all of my tolietries together in a bag, so when I pack I just grab the bag and toss it in the suitcase. I never have to worry about forgetting my toothbrush!

As for laundry soap, I just place one scoop of powder detergent in a Ziplock bag (double bagging to be safe!), and take as many bags as I think I'll run loads. This way, each bag has a pre-messured amount of soap, so all I have to do is dump one bag into the machine per load. As for dryer sheets, I put those in another plastic bag, along with enough change to run a few loads, that way I dont' accidently spend the laundry change (or have the change weigh down my purse!).

I get very sturdy Nalgene travel bottles from the REI camping store, although other sporting goods stores should carry them. I always carry one filled with Woolite (great for handwashables, swimwear and lingerie) and one with regular Tide if I think I'm going to be near a washing machine. As a bonus, if you bring a ziploc baggie with a couple of dryer sheets and leave the bag open a crack, your luggage and the clothes inside will smell fresh.

The bottles are unbreakable and nonreactive, so they don't retain odors or stain. I've had my current set for several years now.
