We are going to be staying in the FW cabins at the end of Aug. I'm a bit confused about transportation from FW.
(Even after looking at the transportation guide).

I have heard that there is an internal bus system for FW and there is the "rest of" disney transportation. The confusion comes from this. Boone and Crockett are they only internal to FW or are they the line that runs to all the parks? For example the Transportation guide says that to get to EPCOT you take Crockett to the TTC and then monorail to Epcot. Where do you pick up the Crockett bus? Inside FW or at the main entrance to FW?

See what I'm trying to resolve?

Thanks

You get on the Boone and Crocket buses at the main bus stop near the Settlement area. It's by the restaurants. For internal transportation, you ride the Chip and Dale buses. These buses stop at the bus stops that are at the loops.

It sounds more confusing than it is. If you ever have a question, just sit at a bus stop and ask the first bus driver who shows up. They may not know the absolute shortest route, but they do know the "official" routes that Disney advocates and they can get you where you need to go.

If you are staying in the Cabins you can take the Boone(external) bus to and from TTC and transfer to the monorail to MK or EPCOT or to buses for MGM, DD, and AK and all the water parks.
You can take a boat to MK by taking a Chip/Dale(internal) bus to the Settlement Depot and then walking to the marina to get the boat.
You can get to AK/BB by taking Chip/Dale (internal) to Settlement Depot and tranferring there to a bus that goes to BB and AK (that order).
An alternate is to get back is to take a bis from any of the parks except MK to Wilderness Lodge and transfer to a Boone bus which will take you to the Cabins.
Crockett bus doesn't go into the Cabin area, but if you are in loops 2100, 2200 you can take it as it passes those 2 loops.
We usually rent a golf cart to get around Ft Wilderness. Last time we rented from Golf Cart Enterprises and they were excellent. Check the Camping Baord and they can give you the phone number if you are interested.

FW is a very spread out resort. The cabins are mostly located in the mid to south portion of the resort and up to a mile from the North end that is FW's hub--the boat dock, bus depot to outside busses, Pioneer Hall, restaurant, back yard barbecue, petting zoo, etc. are all at the North end just off the shore of the lake. The internal Chip and Dale busses take you to the "Pioneer Hall" area (the North end hub). From there you can catch the boat to MK or the busses elsewhere. Boone and Crocket run to the TTC (and also stop at the Wilderness Lodge). From the TTC you catch another bus to MGM, monorail to Epcot (also you can catch the monorail there to MK--once in a while the boat to MK from FW might not be running because of heavy fog or choppy waters). There is also a another bus at the Pioneer Hall depot that goes to Animal Kingdom and Blizzard Beach.

Note that FW is the only resort that requires taking more than one Disney transport to a park. When you need to take multiple transports, you can have some long trips, for example getting back from MGM after it closes requires three busses, to the TTC, another to FW Pioneer Hall area, and then another internal bus to your loop, and there can be very large crowds waiting for busses at each place; net result is that it can take up to two hours to get back. Coming back from Epcot can also be a long time if you leave when it closes. Many, including me, highly recommend having a car, which you park right at your unit and use it to go everywhere outside FW other than MK. The reason--you can drive to virtually anywhere in WDW, except MK (which requires parking at the TTC and then taking a monorail or boat) in about 15 minutes.
