FW rated worse resort !!!

I recently stayed at the Contemp. and Poly. this summer and frankly, they were both noisy, overpriced, and too stuffy for me. I have really grown to loathe motels/hotels this year. I know my mother really likes the poly, can do without the comtemp. ever again i might add, but I just want the piece and quiet of the Fort. I can't stand crap being dropped on the floor at 3AM in the bathroom on the tile, people yelling at the youngins at 5AM, etc. I know I said do away with the cabins and make more sites, but I know that won't happen. They just make them too much money. (I do wish they would make more loops though, and for FULL HOOK UPS, not premium and preferred) I just don't think I will ever go back to wanting to stay in hotels again. The more I stay in the RV, the more I despise hotels and the general public that stays in them.

Before we stayed at the Fort we used to stay at the Value and sometimes the moderates, and frequently heard people talk down about the values, etc. At the end of the day, I've come to realize that attitude is the same no matter where you go. We now love the Fort, but mainly have been enjoying the camping we do everywhere as it gives us the opportunity to spend more time with the kids on a more frequent basis, out in the fresh air and without the other distractions.

Rog, owning an RV has some odd liberating appeal to it. Knowing that it's packed and ready to go in a moment's notice can be a pretty darn comforting feeling during a busy workweek and you see that the weather is going to be great over the weekend and your favorite nearby campground has openings! Being able to get out for $12 to $15 per night at a local state park makes for many great mini-vacations.

Ya just CANT ARGUE with logic like that!!!! Like I said...it wasnt till chatting with you guys here that I've started getting the camper fever. You guys are so passionate about it...there MUST be something to it that I dont know about, something ya cant understand untill you have one.....I WANNA UNDERSTAND THAT PASSION!!!! As much as I love the camping that I do....I can only see that it will be a bigger love once I finally get into my own camper. I just cant happen soon enough.:headache:

I love the weekend or 3 day weekend trips. This is the type of camping I grew up with and we went often. There is a lot of camping near us and we love to "get out of the house" for the weekend with our girls. My dh laughs at me because I'm ALWAYS so sad when we have to leave on Sunday, haha.

I have a buddy that likes the Poly as well.

I'm looking forward to a full season in the camper. We only made it out twice in the tent this year, it was either wet, or hot as heck. I watched my brother get out all through the spring and summer in his TT, and enjoy himself. You can camp in the rain in a tent, but it's just not much fun when you and your campsite are wet, or you just can't escape the heat at all. The kids used to be worn out and ready to quit by Saturday night, now they complain when it's time to go home. Not to mention how much easier it is to cook and clean up.

I always enjoy the run-up to Christmas, but I've got a feeling that Jan-March are gonna be ssslllooowwww!

First I don't stay in the cabins either but what makes the campsites better ???
if you are staying in a great big MH you are staying in a fancier more plush surroundings then they are so you aren't exactly ROUGHING it either you just brought you cabin on wheels with you to me the tenters which i'm not are the ones who are the real campers it takes a tougher person to sleep on the ground, during the night when you need to use bathroom have to run for a comfort station,it's just more outdoors but thats just my opion and i'm just not that outdoor type any more i have tented in the pass but now have a TT but the cabins are as rustic and more so camp themed then some of the big fancy rigs there not that i'm agianst them either just everyone has there idea of what there ideal trip should be why put down others who are doing what they like ,what makes a camper???? thats just up to you everyone has there own ideas

I don't think a camper is distinguished by the type of RV they own, rent, or borrow. We are different. Most people (those who have never camped) will never understand our enthusiasm for camping.

That says it all. I've camped in tents, trailers, and Moho's. It's all camping, the key is what you do with it, and how much you enjoy "going camping." The short weekends at the city park CG are just as fun as the long trips to fancy locations.

DW was never a "camper" but is coming around as we do it more often.

Hi All,
Years ago I worked at the airport and we would fly and do the resorts .
We liked that fine but I always felt ON ,always people always crowds -
Then somehow we decided to splurge and get the motorhome and started doing the Fort Wilderness thing I think that was 1999-My Family
loves it there !
When my kids where younger they made fishin, poles and caught fish in the creek -did the movie a couple nights a week -rode bikes all over -
When they were a little older they went looking for the old railroad tracks and that was a big deal for a couple of years -(one of them even found an original old spike) Now that they are older they don't mind the boring campground pool (when they were younger the theemed pools where cool but nobody seems to care now -I don't ruff things much and usually try to stay on loop 3 or 5 but I love the campgrounds -I like taking the boat back at night ,the water parade at the beach ,the peaceful walk back to my loop at the end of the night and getting back to "my room" where my stuff is all in its space and my snacks are in the fridge I feel more relaxed and thats priceless at the end of a park day -
That being said I used to stay in the exact same spots for 29.00 and 39.00 on ap discounts and deals and then I think 69.00 for quite a while -last year was about 100.00 -I could have stayed at the moderates cheaper but still chose the campgrounds -
so I guess I'm not hard core but I guess I am a camper-
Many years ago when i first got interested in all this and the Fort ,I used to read RADP alott and Randy berbaum filled my head with all things Fort Wilderness and was to me the top authority ,He actually tent camped there for 3 or 4 months at a time-He passed away this last year but I just wanted to mention it ,if any of you knew him -He was a hard core camper ,
and Disney Fan !

When I first married my DH 30 yrs ago, his DB had a MOHO and he wanted one, I thought he was nuts - cook and clean on vacation?? But we visted his DB @ the FT and I changed my mind. (I thought every campground was like the FT). We purchased our 1st Class C and the 1st campground we stayed in I thought we made a mistake, it was bad. But we learned how to pick out the good ones, the FT being my favorite. We have had 8 units. We went without one for about 14 years and we hated staying in hotels or motels. I like knowing that I am staying in my own bed, with my own dirt. We used to bring our kids now we bring our grandkids and the older kids still like coming with us. In these crazy times at least our kids want to do something with us.

laura-k and LORNADUCK.....these are the kinds of post that show "the other people" how much they are missing out on.....its the emotions that ya'll are talking about that just dont happen in even the nicest, cleanest hotels/resorts. Ive never in my life...EVER.....heard ANYONE say anything even remotely close to "Sleeping in a hotel really brings my family together." But campers constantly talk about how camping has improved the quality of the their family time. I desperately need a camping trip!!! NOW!!!

I camped all the time when I was a kid in tents no less no trailers for our family we used a good old tent. Then as we got older I camped on long weekends mainly for the huge fires and the drinking and such. Never was much of a camper but when you drink yourself into a stooper even the bench beside the fire is comfy. Camping now is a bad word to me I went on a long camping trip with the family this past Oct is was ok but that is my last camping trip. I much prefer my hotels and motels. IMHO for me anyhow my idea of camping is downgrading to a resort or hotel/motel with no room service of any kind.
