Okay, I just spent the last 15 minutes on the phone with the FW kennel folks getting some clarification on information that has been somewhat fuzzy on the boards (unless someone else got this accurate info first and already posted, in which case "never mind")

The FW kennels now take reservations (was always first come first served in the past). The phone number is 407-824-2735. shot records are still required at check in.

The hours are now until 9pm, which is an improvement for those of us who are day guests at the kennel and wanted to stay a little later at the parks or had a dining reservation.

The other big thing I was curious about was what will happen to the old kennel when the new kennel comes online. The official word is that it will close - so no more kennel dedicated to FW. I find this kind of sad, since we have used the kennel for years and you can't beat the convenience of it. I didn't ask about the other kennels, but I assume the answer is the same. It doesn't make sense to operate the sattelite kennels with a new main operation.

So the Wonder Beagle will try things out in October and let me know what he thinks of it. He is sort of resistant to change, so I have a feeling it will be a tough sell for him.

Lady Duchess, our cockerspaniel, will miss this kennel also. She enjoyed our early morning walks down to the visit the horses as they were being fed. The people who worked there were awesome--so loving to the pets. I hope some of them may be at the new kennel.

I was also told if you come back after 9pm, there is a phone by the door and security will come let your pup out for you.
As with all info, please double check at the kennel.

That was always SOP for the old kennel, I'll check when I get there if it still holds true.

So are you saying eventually there won't be a kennel on FW property??

So that means that folks must have a toad, tow vehicle, or rent a car if they want to kennel their pets??

It would be smart of Fort management to provide a shuttle to the kennel.

{ hint, hint }

We were there in August. Nothing at the Fort kennel had changed. It's run by a different company, but the only change was that they will now walk your dog. They did tell us that security would let you in after hours to pick up your pet. We only used it once, opting to leave our dog in the 5th wheel while we were away since we were only gone early in the day or later at night.

My Disney connection Andy has been talking about where he believes ground is being broken for the new kennel, but neither he nor I are sure if it is the right place or not. They offered no information re. opening date, but it is correct that when the new kennel opens, there will be no kennel on FW property.

Thanks for the info. It was my understanding that the new kennel was going to be build just across from the entrance to POR. Is that what you heard too?

We are going for our first trip to the fort on Oct 5th. Just planned on leaving the little girl Daisy in the TT with the A/C running of course and the TV turned to Animal Planet...

Anyway, she is used to being left alone all day so there's not a potty problem. I am a little concerned because she's a "yapper" but I plan on keeping the blinds down, and as stated earlier the TV on.

Why do you board the "wonder beagle"? Do you think my plan is okay? We're planning on doing mid-day breaks?

Any advice, as always would be greatly appreciated.

Well, Mickey is used to being alone all day while we work, but camping he hears stuff outside and beagles are pretty "vocal" if you know what I mean. I hate to tell you this, but I have heard a LOT of dogs barking in RV's with the blinds drawn and TV's on, and every one of the owners tells me that the do it so the dog doesn't bark. Of course, they aren't around so they don't know. Not saying your dog would bark, but it's possible. Anyway, I have a hybrid camper and he can't stay in it unattended anyway. Plus, I get concerned over power failures or circuit breakers tripping and the AC going out during the day. It can get pretty hot in October in Florida. So, we kennel him and in the past he has always liked Disney Doggie Daycare, so we'll see how he likes it with the new operators.

When we were ther this last April we used the FW Kennel a few nights we had to take the to Epcot because that was the only kennel that had any openings.
I think this will be a big issue if you do not have a vechicle to take your pet to the the new kennel

Thanks Jim.

We still won't board because I'm not sure if that would stress her out. She's used to being in the camper by herself at times. The first couple of days I will make sure not to be gone longer than three or four hours at a time. It will be just me and DH and we plan to spend a good deal of time at the fort.

Anyway thank you very much.

And I love how vocal begals are.

Hugs and kisses for the "wonder begal".

Also when the new kennel opens it will have new pricing. If you look at their website and figure this is Disney, Im guessing around $30 per pet per night!

Ah, but the problem is, this is NOT Disney. When Disney ran the kennels, they were one of the hottest deals on property. After Disney turned over the operation to Best Friends, the price jumped, and you're right, when the luxury kennel opens, the price will jump again, but blame Best Friends, not Disney.

What will be happening to the building that currently houses the kennel at FtW?

This brings to mind another question. When we were staying at FtW over Labor Day weekend, I saw dogs everywhere (not that I mind - cause I love dogs). Is this an indication that FtW is going to do away with pet loops and become a total "pet friendly" campground? Anyone heard anything about this?

Don't you feel like you're abandoning him? When we take Sammy the Doofus Hound to the kennel, she is not a happy camper. PLUS, they want an arm and a leg to board her.

She's always happy when we pick her up though, even though she has every right to be POed at us for abandoning her. Hope the Wonder Beagle isn't too traumatized!

When we stay at hotel we board our sweeite, and you are right,, it tares our hearts out to leave her there and I'm sure she feels the same way. But when we pick her up,,WOW is she ever happy !!Then when the happy wears off , she's mad at us for a couple dayz.
