I am a disney vet but this will be our first stay at FW and I have a couple of questions. Our situation is that we are staying in our 5th wheel for 14 nights with 10 wpfm tix. We do come out of the parks every afternoon around 2 for a swim and then back in for our adr's (this works best for our family). We are not planning any days where we hang around the fort all day.

First - how necessary is a golf cart? They are awful expensive at $50 per day. Can't I walk and be happy or is the walking too arduous?

Second - I know the off site cart rental is supposedly banned. I have found a place that will rent to me and deliver to FW. Anyone else done this before and if so what company did you use? I will be more inclined to rent a cart for $20 per day versus the WDW prices.

Second - what is the best way to get around the world? I will have my vehicle available. Is it better to drive and park ourselves and forget the busses? Are the busses efficient like they are to other resorts. We have always used internal transportation before and were satisfied with the bus system. Is there a reason I will be unhappy with the bus system too and from fw?

Third - Do I need to plan to take my own lawn chairs to the outdoor movie or do they have satisfactory seating available?

Thanks for your input!
Any further FW suggestions are helpful.

We have never rented a golf cart. If you normally use WDW buses then you will be ok using the buses around the fort. You can walk as little or as much as you like. If you have room I would recommend bringing bikes.....thats our preferred method of getting around. We use Disney transportation to get to the other parks. Its an individual thing....if you have young children it may be easier for you to drive to the parks.:confused3 After the first couple days you will probably figure out which works best for you.

The bus transportation at the Fort has really improved in recent years, so there definitely is no need for a golf cart. Bus stops are at the entrance to each loop (with a few exceptions), so you really only have a short walk to catch the bus. Depending on your final destination, you will then change to another bus, and be on your way.

But, golf carts are a lot of fun. I recommend that you at least rent one for one day, and use it to tour the Fort. Especially if this is your first time.

There is plenty of seating at the campfire program. There are several rows of log benches with backs, and then bleacher seating behind. But, you probably will want folding chairs to sit in back at the campsite.

Have fun!

Personally, for me the buses are all I need. I have brought my own electric scooter to Ft. Wilderness for the past several years, and since I park hop a lot, I found I was returning to Ft. Wilderness at the opposite end of the campground from where I parked it that morning, so had to take a bus to the OTHER end of the campground to pick it up, or just left it and got it the next day.

So I really wouldn't recommend a golf cart.

A cart is nice, but not necessary IMHO. You might consider renting one if you plan on staying one day mostly at the Fort and "Looping" which is fun. About the only times we take the Van is to AK since that is the furtherest park from FW and makes an additional stop at one of the water parks if open. We have even taken the Van to Epcot or MGM on occasion, but only in the A.M. and never if staying to park closing. We always use the boat to MK.

We do typically rent carts, as they provide almost as much fun for us as a park trip for us. We always play a cart "scavenger hunt" where you look for the highest or lowest cart number or a cart number adjacent to ours (DH and DS10 took off on a solo venture and found both without me!!! I will be paying them back on our next trip!!!!). We spend a lot of time just tooling around the resort in the cart. For example, if DS wants a Mickey Bar that becomes an excuse to take the cart over to the Meadows Trading Post.

Having said, they are very spendy. I would recommend renting one for a couple of days just to have some fun and get the experience, but if you choose to use the internal bus system it works great. You never have to wait more than a few minutes.

Please tell me where you can rent a cart for 20 dollars .....I want to know!:surfweb: :surfweb: :surfweb: :surfweb: :surfweb:

I"ll rent you mine for $20/day. Pick it up in Wesley Chapel.

That post has apparently been deleted. I'd like to know as well, especially since Disney doesnt allow GC delivery, I wonder how they're pulling that one off...I guess they can deliver it to the front gate and get all the paperwork done on side of the road. That would work for me as well.

I have read where a company pulls into the overflow lot (which has no guard gate) and either meets the guest in the overflow lot or drives the golf cart to the guests site.

I tried very recently to find a company near Orlando/Kissimmee that was more economical...but I didn't find ANYONE in the 20-30/day range...honestly, they were neck & neck with Disney's carts, and when you consider that Disney is ON PREMISES, and theres no deposit fund, etc...seemed easier to go with Disneys....but if someone actually is in the $20/day....that would be a whole different story.
