How clean are these? Do each of the stalls have benches, hooks, etc. Do we need to wear footwear in the showers? How do YOU carry all of you things to the station? We are thinking of using the new blue grocery bags that Kroger is now selling for carrying groceries. Any better ideas?

They are very clean! The shower stalls have benches and hooks. I like to wear shower shoes in the showers. I have cheapo nylon duffel bags that I pack with shower stuff for each of us with soap, shampoo, conditioner, and other toiletries.

It is good to know about the benches and shower hooks. there is nothing I cant stand more than not having at least one hook and a bench in a shower. Knowing that this is Disney, I was sure that that would be covered. thanks

You can eat off the bathroom floor. At least you could the last time we were at the fort. The 1300 loop was the loop we were in. CLean very clean. The showers had doors then a curtain between the change and shower. The floor is rough though. They make it that way so you wont slip. The first shower I took I didn't bring shower shoes the rest I did because of the rough floor. Also keep in mind the last time I stayed at the fort was 1996 so things might have changed but I doubt it.

I have a small backpack that is my camping bathroom pack. It has many zippered sections to keep toiletries organized, then a large section that I keep my sleep clothes in.

When I get back from the shower, I swap out my dirty clothes for the next mornings clothes, and since when I first get up I have to run to the comfort station anyway, I just grab that bag and go, then I also get dressed the next morning in one of the shower stalls.

Also a good tip, no so much necessary at Disney, but at other state parks and campgrounds, when choosing a shower stall turn on the water and check to see if it works/has water pressure, etc. BEFORE you get undressed.

Nothing more frustrating than getting into your stall and getting all ready to hop in the shower only to find out you have to get dressed again and find another stall.

I love the clean comfort stations! Try using a cheap beach bag. You can find them everywhere now!

Turning on the hot water right away is good advice. Especially if you are an early riser and are the first ones in the shower. It takes a LONG time to get the water to run hot from the hot water tank. I hate standing there in the buff freezing while waiting for hot water. It takes several minutes!! The first time this happened to me I was just about ready to give up and get dressed when it finally ran hot.

In the last five years or so, the Comfort Stations have been re-finished with new flagstone floors and tile work. They are actually much nicer than they were at the time of your visit. The most recent renovation was on the CS between the 1500 and 1600 loops. I think that almost all of them have now been re-done, except for those on the 2000 loop.

As for toting you items, I am the man, so I just have a shaving kit that holds everything I need.

My DW and DD's each have their own little carrier that we bought at Bath and Body Works. It is like a nylon bucket, with a metal handle and a mesh bottom. They each have their own shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. That way, they can go to the showers at the same time, and not have to try to share the products, or wait until one person is done to go to the shower. This saves a lot of time! (and arguments). The nylon carriers are great, because everything they need goes right in there, and we just store them under the camper so they are handy.

I will also share a tip for you about something that we do when the DW is not with us. It never fails that one of the kids will drop her new, clean, dry clothes on the floor in the shower stall when trying to get dressed, or leave something some item of her dirty clothes at the comfort station when returning (and usually not remember until we are back home, if ever). So, when they camp with me, I send the DD's to the showers without their clean clothes. We leave those in the camper. After they shower, they put on the clothes they wore there, and then come back to the camper and change. It works a lot better. DW does not approve, but it hasn't killed the kids yet to put on their dirty clothes to walk back to the campsite, and we never have to worry about the new clothes falling in the water, or them forgetting to bring back the clothes that they wore there. And, we are camping, after all-a little dirt and germs are to be expected.

Shoes for in the showers

They have non-skid rubber mats in the shower stalls, but they HURT your feet.

Plus...you don't know what or who has been in the shower last..so we always wear flip flops. The OP's question had me remembering a shower story when my son was younger. My son is going to be 16 .However, when he was younger(about 10) I insisted that my husband stay in the bathroom while my son showered..you know..I worried about him being in there alone. One time while waiting for a shower stall to become available the door to the handicapped shower opened..and out came...well a couple. ;) A man and a woman.(and they weren't disabled)..big smiles on their faces. Obviously they had been showering together. :rolleyes1 My husband had quite the time explaining to my son why these two were in there together( he told him that they wanted to make sure one another were VERY clean)..it was the first thing my son shouted to me as they walked back to the camper..I could see my husband walking behind him..head down shaking slowly from side to side. He wanted to kill me as it were my fault they had come upon this romantic enounter!:rotfl:

As for the showers they are beautiful! Very clean. At least on our last bike ride through the campground. Four years ago we were at the WL and rented bikes to tour the campground. We were near the 1400 loop..near the campfire area. My husband stopped to use the restroom..walked in and pretty quickly walked back out. Tells me..come here..you gotta go in there. Now..I'm thinking..why does this man want me to go into the men's room..and I looked at him like he's crazy(he's used to that look:eek: ) He tells me "no, no..you have to see it..go in the ladies room." It was really beautiful..nicer than the resort lobby bathroom at the WL. The tile had various scenes..and they were immaculate.

Definitely wear shower shoes, as Auntie said, you never know who or what has been in there, myself and a few other posters have gone in to take a shower and noticed that someone has a left a little (or maybe big?) unpleasant surprise  in the shower stall. FW housekeeping will usually have it cleaned up pretty quickly but I wouldn't want to step barefoot into that shower.

Susu,

They are the CLEANEST, best camping comfort stations you will ever encounter. They aren't the biggest shower stalls but they do have a bench, a hook, a sliding lock, and A/C.

Based on the stories DW tells, us guys are in/out pretty easy but you ladies take more time so you might want to bring a book :rotfl2:

...who wasn't all that impressed with the comfort stations ?? :confused3 After hearing all the raving about them, it was kind of a let down when we got there. We used the one between the 1600 and 1800 loop and it was just "ok". Could have been cleaner and there was only a few shower stalls so the girls had to wait most nights. I honestly didn't see the big deal about them, or at least that one. The ice machine was broken too for most of the week we were there.

Hmmm, :scratchin maybe that is one of the older ones that they have not updated yet? :confused3: Because when I first walked into the satation my jaw dropped! :jumping1: I made my parents come look at them because they were that clean/nice

I believe you are right, I think that is one of the older versions, pink corian type stalls and such. The newly redone CS with the tile work is much nicer.

Even before the 1500 CS was updated, I thought they were very nice. But then again, I'm used to digging holes in the woods :rolleyes1

...not at FW of course.

Yea, sounds like you got an older one. Even so, I always was impressed with the old one's as well. They're in the process of renovating all of them, but it's taking a while.

I've been in a lot of "comfort stations" at campsites and various public places, and I have to say none of them ever have compared to the one's at the Fort. If there ever was a problem it was more with the people that occupy the comfort stations than the stations themselves.

My wife even prefers to use the comfort station as compared to taking a shower in the camper because she says it's easier to wash her hair........women....lol ;)
