FW Cabins or POR?????

We have 2 rooms at the POR reserved for 84.00 per night for each room and can get FW Cabin for 149.00 a night. Just want to know which would be the best for 2 adults and 3 children. Have heard nothing but good about POR but have heard mixed reviews about the FW Cabins. Give me your honest opinion. Thanks

I hope you get some good responses about staying in the cabins. I would just like to mention that the cabins have a full kitchen which will be enable you to prepare much of your own food (especially breakfast and lunch) which will save you $$$$ !

POR is great! We stay there with 3 kids and we love it. There isnt tons of space in the room but we get by. I figure we arent in the room that much anyway. We love the atmosphere and the boat ride to down town disney. I cant comment on the FW cabins but I do know that FW is one huge place, I get lost when we visit. I dont know if I would like having to take buses through the resort just to get to my cabin. I do think that the pictures I have seen of the cabins make them look pretty nice. I'll be anxious to hear what others that have stayed there have to say.

I've stayed at both, and although you didn't say how old your kids are, I know our kids loved FW when they were younger. We've still got pictures of my younger one looking mopey in the theme park because he kept wanting to go back to his "village" (his word for FW).

POR is our favorite moderate and we've stayed there many times. It's beautiful, fun, great for families. We like the Alligator Bayou section. There is nothing negative I can say about it.

We stayed at FW cabins once. We have no children, but were with another couple. The cabins were fun and nicer than I expected, but a couple of things to keep in mind. IMHO you have to have a rental car. The resort is so spread out that there are 2 internal buses that only run inside the resort. Then you have to take one of these to the main bus stop to go to the parks (or to the area within FW where the restaurant, store, petting zoo are). So it takes you 2 buses to get to a park. Also, the loops for cabins are kind of long, so you may have a long walk to the bus stop. It's really very beautiful and woodsy, but I don't think I'd stay there again although I know a lot of people love it.

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time whichever you choose.

I have stayed at both. While the cabins are beautiful, my only deciding factor would be if i wanted to have that camping experience and I planned on cooking most of my meals. The pool wouldn't be as exciting for the kids and I have to agree about transportation within the campground is time consuming. My kids were younger when we stayed there and it was great. Now however, my kids like the resort feel more and they like people watching as much as me. We really enjoy the food courts and strolling around our resort.

POR and very relaxing with a variety of recreational options as well as a themed pool with slide, hot tub and quiet pool. If reserving 2 rooms at POR you'll also have the pleasure of having 2 bathrooms and 2 tv's. I say go for POR.

Of course, if you're looking for that camping experience the cabins can't be beat.

I love the Fort Wilderness Cabins. They are very nice and as others mentioned you do get a full kitchen which can save time and money. Even if you don't want to cook full meals ( we almost never cook real meals ) you can at least eat a quick breakfast in the cabin to save time in the mornings. The bedroom is seperate from the kitchen and living room so the kids can nap and you don't have to worry about disturbing them. You also have a deck with a picnic table plus a charcoal grill.

The Fort Wilderness complex has so many activites for children - a petting zoo with pony rides, a horse barn to visit the horses that pull the wagons at the Magic Kingdom, nightly wagon rides, Chip and Dale's campfire program with marshmallow roast, play grounds, fishing in the canals, bike paths, just being outdoors and seeing wildlife running around, ect. Fort Wilderness is just a great relaxing place for both kids and adults. It is a true Disney classic.

They got rid of the Fort Wilderness internal bus route last year so it may be less confusing to get around now. I have stayed there multiple times and have never used my own transportation and did just fine.

I also think Port Orleans looks nice too even though I have not actually stayed there. The only thing that I could think about that might be better is that you would have 2 bathrooms if you got 2 rooms there as opposed to 1 in the cabin. They also have a food court which Fort Wilderness lacks. I think either choice would be fine for your family. It just depends on what kind of experience you are looking for at Disney.

We have a resv. for FW and I am also thinking about POR instead. How did you get those great rates? We are going in early October. I think my kids will love FW but we go camping quite a bit living her in Maine so I'm leaning towards POR.
