Sorry, relatively new here. This is a cross post, since I didn't see this forum before i posted the other. Thank you!!

Hello, me, my wife and our four kids (12, 10, 6, 1) are planning a trip to WDW. Currently, we have a reservation at PO - RS but are tossing around the idea of switching to a cabin at FW. The only negative that I have heard about FW campground/cabins is the transportation/bussing. How bad is it? We have a lot of early morning plans and I don't want to miss out on those. Any advice is appreciated! TIA.

For getting to MK, you'll l have to either walk or take the internal bus to the dock. How far a walk it is will depend on where you are staying. When we stayed, we were in the cabin in the 100 loop, so it was a VERY short walk to the boat dock, but the chance of getting that cabin is probably pretty small.

For the rest of the parks, you need to take the bus from the main depot, in the front of the resort. Again, either walk or take the internal bus, depending on where your cabin is. We had a car, so, other than MK, we drove to the other parks. So, we never had to take the internal bus.

You can rent a golf cart to get around. There is parking at the Bus Depot, Outpost and Boat Dock.

Renting a cart is $65/day. We always get a cart but it is a large extra expense. Otherwise you can take the internal bus to get to the boat dock or the other bus depot to the parks.

The internal bus has other stops to like the pool area, etc.

One thing to note if you have pre park open ADRs at MK it's a little more difficult. There are only boats to MK and the first one comes 30 mins before park open, last year we were on the first boat and got there in the middle of the welcome show (before it moved inside the park)To get there earlier you have to take a different boat earlier to the contemporary then either walk or use that resorts other transportation methods.

FW is big. The PP mentioned walking but it is quite a hike to get places. As far as I know there is only 1 cabin in the 100 loop. Last yr we requested a cabin near transportation (near internal bus stop, so outer end of loop) in the 2800 loop. This put us in walking distance to the main bus stop the goes everywhere but MK. Honestly anywhere else I don't think is really within a reasonable walking distance distance with a 6 yr old and 1 yr old.

Sine FtW is my transportation weak spot, let me ask a question. If you are in a cabin, is it easy to just have your car and drive in and out, rather than take buses?

if you have a car it will be right outside your cabin as each cabin has space for 2 cars at the cabin. can be slow going with a low speed limit I think 10 MPH but doable

That's what we did (except for boat to MK). Very easy with a car. Reserved parking right at your front porch! Ours was shaded, too, by trees all around. Easy to drive in and out of FW (once you learn the route so you don't get lost), only took a couple of minutes to drive from one end to the other. I would say driving from our 100 cabin to the main road took less time than, when we stayed at POR with a car, walking to our parking spot then driving out of POR.

Is it 1 or 2. I am thinking of renting a car but a friend will also have a car. Having 2 out front would hands down make the rental car win since we would get free parking anyways but if it is only 1 (that's what I read earlier today) then may stick with gold cart even though I kind of dislike the Disney buses as I like to be comfortably seated not standing on a bus.

Depending on how long you are staying and how much time you have there are off property places that rent golf carts about half of what Disney charges. I have used Kenny's Tee Time in the past and they have been great and according to the website they have carts for 6 people. The issue is is that they (Kenny's and the others) can't deliver the cart to you at The Fort, you have to meet them off property, usually in the LBV are on SR535 for Kenny's. It takes about 45 min to an hour to complete the entire process of leaving The Fort, getting the cart, dropping the trailer off, and getting back to The Fort. They will let you use their truck and trailer as well. Though it sounds as if you have one car if you don't have a way to get to the pickup spot they will arrange for that for a fee, but I have a feeling you could also use Uber etc cheaper. For our October trip we are saving about half of what Disney charges. To us it's worth the time to get it from what we save.

If you haven't done so already check out the camping board here on The Dis https://www.disboards.com/forums/camping-at-disney-world.24/ here that has lot's of info about The Fort and the cabins. We love them.

I think I've read on the FW boards only one car per cabin. The other has to stay up front in the overflow lot. We rented a cart. Having stayed there before we didn't want to rely on the internal buses like we did before. But you'd have to have 2 golf carts because there's only a few 6 seaters. Be sure to check out all the pics of the cabin layouts. The bunk beds are right next to the queen bed in the bedroom but there is a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. Six in a POR room is going to be tight too. At least the beds are queens & one can be one Murphy Bed. But not much room for a crib or pack n play. Have stayed with 4 adults in a room there & that's tight too especially with one bathroom. Good luck with whatever you choose. WDW has so much to do.

There is a table that separates the bed from the bunks and the murphy bed has now been replaced with a queen sleep sofa. The cabins were refurbished starting in fall of 2015.

Here is the new layout:

Yes! You park right next to your cabin or campsite.

We've all been to WDW many times and needed a budget friendly way for the 5-6 (most likely 5) to go. We wanted something that would be similar to a sleep over. Port Orleans wasn't an option for 6 by the time we booked but if it comes up I'll look at that. Bunks being next to the queen is no issue. For now it would be 2 on pull out 2 on bunk and 1 on queen or 1 or pull out and 2 on queen. Also nobody minds a slight hike to the comfort station if need be but we'll most likely have a shower schedule. It is only 3 nights and most people are pretty close with each other so it will work. Heck the Cabins look like they are bigger then my apartment and we've slept 5 here for a weekend no problem.

The two cabin loops we stayed didn't have any comfort stations anywhere near them - might want to look at a new map before asking for a specific loop if you go there. We checked out th comfort stations in the RV loops but we had a golf cart. Have fun!!
