Looking to go to 50's Prime Time next year but worrie about my mam. She is beyond fussy. French fries or jacket potato is as adventurous as she gets. Will there be anything for her to eat?

Will she eat fried chicken? There is a fried chicken, mashed potato and veg plate. If you see pictures of plates, they are really good to make substitutions (e.g. my DD swapped corn for the collared greens and asked for no gravy on her mashed potatoes). Take a look at the menus and see if you think she will eat things at 50's. We do this with all restaurants we book (for DD). I would also suggest buffets as there is generally a lot of variety at the buffets for both picky and adventurous eaters.

Get this for people to share. "A Sampling of Mom's Favorite Recipes - Crispy-fried Chicken, Fork Tender Pot Roast, and Traditional Meatloaf with all the fixings" There is also "Battered Onion Rings - served with horseradish sauce" (she can ask for the sauce to be left behind - it's in a separate container) or "Chicken Noodle Soup - Hearty mixture of chicken, vegetables, and egg noodles".

We went there with my mother-in-law and I thought the food would be great for her. Then she decided to tell us that her meals had changed so she just eats a big breakfast and skimps on the other two meals. She had the soup and loved it.

You don't have to order a full and complete meal. An appetizer will do. Or, just a dessert.

It's fairly basic food so I'm sure she will find something good to eat. When my kids were younger and more picky I found places that had buffets the best as there seemed to be something for everyone.

Your best bet is to review the menu - here on the DIS, at allears.net and/or the official Disney web site. I think of 50's as good "down home cooking", but I don't now what you will think

I'd check out the menu here on the DIS and see if there's something you think she'll like.

OP, I have a feeling you're from somewhere outside the US (I think what you're calling a "jacket potato" is probably what we call a baked potato here). What we might consider old-fashioned "comfort food" here (pot roast, fried chicken) might not be what she's used to eating at home. It might be worth the time looking at menus to help you plan ahead.

Good luck!

Usually I comment that the only way to deal with picky eaters is to make them eat different things at home (where they can scream all they want) and this will help them develop more adventurous eating habits. However, in the case of you "mam" it is probably way to late for that.:rolleyes1

As well as looking at the menus online, do an easy google image search for specific dishes. eg "50s Primetime Disney Hollywood Studios fried chicken" should pop up many pics of the food. Your Mom could look at the pics to see if it appeals. Food descriptions are great but a picture is worth a 1000 words.

Will they serve just a portion of fries?

Yes - be, um, be prepared. She might get some mentions of that meal. We ate there with a vegetarian and we are meat eaters. So, we were prepared with our choices. She was not. And this was years ago so things were a bit different with eating choices. Our friend ordered the turkey sandwich without the turkey. "Mom" took a step back and said "what?!" and we quietly explained. So, Mom sat down and told our friend three different vegetarian options that were available so our friend ended up with a veggie burger and fries that she loved. Our friend loved the reaction and has gone back several times with great results.

So - order just the fries but be prepared for a reaction in a good way.

Thanks everyone. Taking my daughter so really want to do some Disney dinning "experiences" and don't want the grandparents to miss out on seeing it.

Yes, from the UK and you got it right (jacket = baked).

Way too late for any change with my Mam. You wouldn't believe how bad she is.

I totally understand your problem! My mom will eat plain fries and Mac n' cheese. And that's really it. (Well except for ice cream, lots of ice cream, lol!) For years I was afraid to take her to a TS restaurant but have started "risking" it more lately, and so far it's always been fine.

We just tell the server right away that there are very limited things that she can/will eat, and so the chef always comes out to talk to her. And after going through the long list of things she can't/won't eat, decides that he just needs to make her a bowl of plain Mac n'cheese. With a side of fries. Then everyone is happy, lol. Even if it's not on the menu, they will work with you. Just get the head chef involved if necessary.
