I couldnt sleep so I started figuring out bills for this month. I looked at my bank account and noticed a charge for AOL. I swore I had already paid one this month and in researching my bank account noticed that I had not only paid them twice this month but twice a month since July!! They are sneaky in that they put it in so it hits on different bank statements. This is why I havent noticed it before this.

I am on the phone with them now and have been on hold for 15 minutes at 3.29 in the morning. I am NOT a happy campy and they will refund the three months they have double charged me or I not only will cancel my account but put in a fraud alert with my bank.

I never authorized them to do this and in talking to the online help they now say I have TWO accounts which I do not. I hate AOL for this kind of stuff. This isnt the first time I have heard of them doing this to people.

::Sigh:: sorry you're having to deal with that. I used to have AOL and am so happy to be far away from it.
If you do decide to cancel, be prepared to have to fight again. I remember when I cancelled, they kept trying to do anything to keep me from cancelling. "we'll give you a ocuple of free months" "You really should get the newest edition and check out the features" etc. etc. If you intend on cancelling, don't back down from their high pressure tactics.

They cant pull the try our newest edition because it wont run on my computer. I tried downloading 8.0 and also using the disk for 8.0 and it messed up my computer big time. It was a mess getting it off and I had to have a sweet soul from the DIS send me a copy of the 7.0 she had on disk so that I could reinstall it. I know my computer wont take 9.0 at all.

I have now been on hold for 45 minutes. Do they only have ONE operator at night???

They will get this figured out and credited or I will put in a fraud alert with my bank because I never authorized them to take it out twice and both appear in my name.

Whoa it pays to call AOL in the middle of the night. For some reason they changed my dh's account to his own account without my permission as I am the Master Account Holder. Not only did they cancel his account and put it back under my name but they credited me the 86.70 that they over charged me, gave me two free months, and gave me a number to call in December before my bill is due to get the payment lowered since I have been a member with them for six years!!! Gotta love it. Hey sometimes not sleeping pays off!!!

sometimes not sleeping does have advatages! Glad it all worked out for you!

I just want to say that I don't work for AOL, BUT, in the 8 years I was with them I never once had any type of problem with them. I never got booted off (except when I used the 9.0) software, and I had only my monthly charge hit when it was supposed to.

I hear all of these stories all the time about AOL and it always just leaves me :confused3 .

I'm glad you got it worked out.

Had my own problems with AOL a few months ago. I started looking at our bank statement and noticed that they had charged me 2 times in one month. I called and they told me I was charged twice because we had 2 active accounts. Huh?! They read off some username I had never heard of before so I know I had never used it (and don't even know where it came from in the first place!) After a long time of convincing them, they did refund me and put the money back in our checking account.

I'm with you Christine. I've been with them over 7 years and never had problems either. But I guess like most things you only hear the bad and not the good.

please note: I am not referring to anyone or anything in particular, I'm just speaking of society in general. The "warms your heart" stories are becomming far and few between these days. :(

I've never had a problem with AOL either and I've also had them for 8 years.

It's funny you should mention 9.0 because I installed it on 2 different computers and it was still horrible. In both cases, I uninstalled 9.0, re-installed 8.0 and had no problem.

I've talked to my other friends with AOL and they've had the same experience with 9.0.

I'll be calling them!! This past month AOL double billed me. I thought it might be because I canceled a credit card they were billing on, but I'll be calling to check.

A discount after being with them 6 years????????? I've been with them 8 years!  I'll be asking about that also.

A couple months ago, they reduced the number of phone numbers the had in our area. Since there has been only one number, I have noticed that my connection will be lost from time to time and it automatically redials and connects. Their service is getting worse and worse.

I had a simmilar problem, but I was tripple billed, they claim it must have been a fault of my kids or DH for possibly clicking on a pop up or something. Kind of scary that if a kid clicks onto something you will easily get over billed. Same thing, multiple accounts, why wouldnt they just send you an email to confirm it

Those of you who were double-billed . . . did you have a pop-up requesting an update to your CC info? A coworker just noticed this yesterday - that she was billed twice this month by AOL. She had a pop-up, did the update and got something in the mail from AOL as well. She called them and wa also told she had two accounts, but didn't understand how that could be.

I showed her this thread and she's going back over her bank statements to be sure this was the first instance. I hope all of you who have had the problem can the resolution you deserve.

**** Coworker thinks her CC may have expired and that she might not have been billed for August, hence the two payments billed in September with the updated CC info. ****

The two account thing is what happened to me. They had me on one account and dh on another when he had originally been under my master screen name. He says he didnt click on anything and didnt ask for a seperate account nor did they notify me that this happened. They just started double billing.

If ya'll have been with AOL for such a long time I would call about the discount. There is a catch though you have to sign up for a year and you have to be using a debit card.
